Cindy is used to waking up early so she went out of her room early in the morning and headed to the living room. Her room was on the second floor but his room is downstairs. His room is surely downstairs too so he won't have a hard time going up and down to his room.
She's thankful that she and Adam have different rooms because if they were next to each other in bed, she definitely wouldn't be able to sleep all night. She's not used to having a man beside her while sleeping. And she might suddenly wake up being choked by his hands. She values her life more than anything else in the world.
When she arrived in the living room, she was greeted with a smile by the maid named Nana Dayay. She looks kind so she's sure she'll get along with her.
"Good morning, Ma'am Cindy. Did you sleep well last night?" she greeted her with a smile.
"Yes, Nana Dayay. I slept soundly even though I was in a different house and not in my own room at my Uncle's house. I didn't have a bad dream even if the last face I saw before sleeping was that grumpy face of Adam. And please don't call me Ma'am Cindy anymore. Cindy is enough," she answered with a smile to the kind helper.
She didn't care even if she told Adam that she called him grumpy because what she said was true. He's already disabled but still grumpy, No wonder his parents looked for a woman for him to marry because no woman would like him if he's always like that.
"Oh, Cindy. Please understand your husband. He's just irritable because of his condition," apologized Nana Dayay to Cindy for her boss. "Adam was still a baby when I started to work for his family until he was born and I became his nanny. So I know his temperament very well. I'm telling you, he wasn't always like this. Even though he always looked serious, he wasn't irritable. But after the accident and he couldn't walk again, his demeanor suddenly changed. He became even more serious and hot-headed," Dayay explained to Cindy the reason for Adam's irritability.
"Don't worry, Nana Dayay. I have a lot of patience, so Adam's tantrums won't bother me for long," Cindy joked with the old woman.
Cindy understands Adam's situation. Whoever is in that situation will surely change their behavior.
Cindy helped Nana Dayay prepare breakfast for Adam and Crispin. She found out that Crispin, who is Adam's secretary and driver, also stays in that house.
They only prepared coffee and French toast bread because Adam and Crispin don't eat rice in the morning. They had just set the breakfast on the table when Crispin came down. His room was upstairs because Nana Dayay slept in the other room downstairs.
"You woke up early, Cindy. Did you sleep well last night?" Crispin asked as he approached her and Nana Dayay.
Cindy chuckled softly upon hearing Crispin's question. "That's what Nana Dayay asked me too. You must have expected me not to sleep on the first night of my stay here," she said jokingly.
Crispin also laughed when he found out that he and Nana Dayay asked Cindy the same thing. "Not exactly like that. I saw Adam coming out of your room last night, so I thought maybe my boss was in a bad mood again and he scolded you."
"Well, you're right there. He did give me a good scolding last night."
"Good thing you didn't have a nightmare, huh? Sometimes when Boss gives me a bad look at night, I have nightmares about him," Crispin joked. Cindy and Nana Dayay also laughed at his antics.
Secretly, Cindy was happy because even though Adam could be grumpy, she got along well with the people living in his house, except of course for himself.
They were laughing when they heard a faint cough at the entrance of the kitchen. When they looked back, they saw Adam staring at them seriously, especially at Cindy.
"Good morning," Cindy greeted Adam with a warm smile.
"I want to talk to you now. Follow me inside my room," Adam said seriously instead of reciprocating Cindy's greeting.
Cindy was about to ask what he needed, but before she could even open her mouth, Adam turned away from them and rolled his wheelchair back into his room.
"What's wrong with your boss? Why does he look so bitter early in the morning?" Cindy asked the two in front of her.
Crispin just shrugged, indicating he didn't know why their boss seemed in a bad mood that morning.
"You're really naughty, Cindy. Don't ever let him hear what you're saying or you might end up being a squeezed bitter melon," Nana Dayay told Cindy with a wry smile. She just chuckled and scratched her head before walking towards Adam's room.
Cindy no longer knocked on Adam's room door because it was already open while he was facing the door with a bored expression. "Get inside and close the door," he ordered her.
She did not obey Adam's orders; instead, she gave her husband a suspicious look. "Why do I need to close the door? Are you planning something bad against me, huh?"
"What the hell are you thinking, woman? Do you think I can harm you with this condition?" Adam's voice asked angrily.
Cindy paused for a moment. Indeed. She couldn't be harmed by him since he couldn't even stand up. She finally closed the door and then sat on the edge of his bed.
"What do you want to talk about that we need to hide inside your room?"
Instead of answering, Adam handed a white folder to her. "That's our contract agreement. I want you to sign it now."
"Contract agreement? What is it for?"
"Read it so you will know what that contract agreement is for," Adam replied with a serious expression.
Cindy opened the folder and quickly read the contents. The content of the contract agreement was about the two of them. It stated in the contract that after six months, Cindy would voluntarily break up with Adam because she wanted to have children, but Adam didn't want it. It also stated in the agreement that if they separated, Cindy would not get anything from Adam. He wrote a lot of agreement but she was too lazy to read them all.
She frowned as she placed the folder on the bed and faced Adam. "Do you want me to break up with you so that will be the one to be blamed by your parents and be seen as the bad one by others, is that it? If you really want us to break up after six months, then you'll have to figure it out yourself, and don't use me, okay?"
"I will give two million pesos if you're the first to break up with me."
"Okay, fine. Deal," Cindy's quick response came before four o'clock. If she and Adam were to separate and she had a lot of money, she wouldn't need to return to her Uncle Lando's house. She would continue her studies in college and pursue the course she wanted using the money he would give her.
"You finally show your true colors. Indeed, my money is the reason why you agreed to marry me even though you know my disability. You really look like money," Adam's voice said firmly.
"Hey! Wait a minute. First, I didn't ask for money from you, okay? You were the one who offered money and now you're accusing me harshly? That doesn't seem right. And like you, I was also forced to marry you." She gives him an impatient look. "So what? Are you going to divorce me after six months and give me two hundred?"
She frowned at him. "Help! Hold on. First, I didn't ask you for money, okay? You're the one who offered money, and now you're accusing me of being money-minded? That doesn't seem right. And just like you, I was also forced to marry you. So what now? Are you the one who's going to leave me after six months?"
"No. I will give you the money and after that don't appear in my life again. Do you hear me?" Adam quickly responded.
Cindy secretly rejoiced. There are actually good benefits of marrying Adam. After six months, she will be free again. Free from married life and her uncle's wife and children.
Using the intercom inside Adam's room, he called Crispin and had the content of the contract agreement revised. Crispin, albeit surprised, simply followed without further questioning. After the content of the contract was revised, both Adam and Cindy signed it.
"Happy six months collaboration as husband and wife, Mr. Adam Aldana," Cindy said with a smile, then she reached out her hand to Adam for a handshake. However, he just brushed her hand aside.
"I'm warning you, Cindy. Don't fall in love with me within six months. Because I'm sure you'll just get hurt. I will never like a money-hungry woman."
Cindy raised her eyebrows when she heard Adam's words. Instead of engaging with his judgment, she smiled and gently placed both her palms on Adam's face, forcing him to look at her face.
"Maybe you're the one who will fall in love with me, Mr. Aldana." She gave him a seductive smile. She lowered one of her hands and placed it on his chest. "And maybe you won't even realize that your heartbeat is fast when you see me," she added teasingly.
"Nonsense! It will never happen," Adam answered after removing her hands from his cheeks and placing them in front of her chest then turned around his wheelchair towards the full-size mirror inside his room.
Cindy just smiled at Adam's reaction and then walked out without saying goodbye. Neither of them ever thought that their destiny started to tangle the moment they met.
