***Mateo***  I stare at my beautiful mate tucked away in her bed as she sleeps peacefully, a bowl of water and a cloth in my hand. It’s been ten days since the attack and despite Emiliano’s best efforts, he could not get Sofia to wake up. Instead, she lay frozen in time, her golden eyes hidden beneath her eyelids and thick lashes. I had doctors and even the medicine man from the human village brought in to treat her, but no matter what they did, she refused to open her eyes.  They said she was in perfect health, Emiliano having removed every ounce of poison from her body.
