Dumb? Being a woman, how dare she calls me, a man as dumb?
Edward Ainsworth had initially intended to give the beautiful but infuriating woman a piece of his mind. But, knowing that he was in the fault, he held back.
Closing his eyes, Edward Ainsworth took a deep breath to calm his taut nerves. After reciting the numerals in his mind he opened his raven black eyes, now devoid of any previous anger.
“It’s a mistake.” he said. That was all that the mighty Edward Ainsworth wanted to say and he was sure that he had apologized properly. Thinking that his apology was well said, he crossed his arms against his chest waiting for the woman to respond.
Is that an apology? Iris thought with a blank expression whereas Jeremy Hunter felt his lips twitch at Ainsworth’s self acclaimed apology.
“Is that an apology for almost killing me?” Iris questioned, her brows raised.
“Yes, it is.”
“Oh…”
Seeing Iris remain silent as a stone, Edward Ainsworth sneered in his heart.
Just an apology and the woman seemed to forgive him. Did she forget that she almost died in his hands? Women sure are fickle.
He initially thought that the woman was beautiful but now he no longer felt so. Since the woman had already forgiven him, he wanted to leave the damn place. Thinking as such, Edward Ainsworth turned around to climb on his horse, completely ignoring the baffled looks on everyone’s faces.
In the process of ignoring everyone, Edward Ainsworth failed to notice the darkened expression on Iris’s face.
Is that even an apology?
How dare this arrogant pickle?!
Letting out a snort, Iris narrowed her eyes on Edward Ainsworth who was adjusting the reins of his horse, his broad back facing her. Not even sparing a glance at the group behind him, Edward Ainsworth sped away.
It was not only Iris who felt uncomfortable with his half hearted words, even Jeremy Hunter couldn't help but want to hide his face when he heard Ainsworth's so called apology, the one without any repentance from the man's side. He felt that Edward Ainsworth truly brought shame upon all the men.
Heaving a helpless sigh in his heart, Jeremy Hunter shifted his attention to the woman beside him. He had to admit that the woman standing next to him was the prettiest of all he had seen. She had pointy nose, almond shaped eyes with thick lashes with the deepest emerald he had ever seen. Though she was dressed in loose robes which resembled men's attire closely, he could tell that she had great curves hidden beneath the lapels, given his abundant experience with women.
Unaware of the fact that a pair of eyes were watching her, Iris mumbled "Such an arrogant b*stard!"
Jeremy Hunter felt his lips twitch at her words. The woman beside him was no where near a gentle lady, she did not care about refining her speech. He somehow felt amused by her.
Still unaware of Jeremy's presence, Iris began to rub her nose as her mind started to scheme. She felt a stifled feeling in her heart on seeing the man unscathed while she was standing there in robes stained with her own blood.
She was not the unreasonable type and she had initially thought to let go of the matter once after the man apologized to her. But, now she decided otherwise.
Since the man was so conceited about himself, there was no need for her to hold back.
Initially Jeremy felt amused, but now he found her totally adorable.
The woman was like an open book, the myriad of expressions on her face adding a liveliness to her. Unknown to him, a smile crept on to his lips.
But, his smile froze in the middle as he found the woman turn towards him, her large emerald eyes staring into his, straight and unblinking. Her unabashed stare made Jeremy Hunter feel something odd for the first time. He was so drowned into her eyes that he missed what she was saying to him.
"Can I have them?" Iris asked in anticipation.
Waking up from his daze, Jeremy Hunter sported an awkward face as he asked her to repeat again.
Not sensing anything wrong, she stated "I asked if I can borrow your bow and arrow."
"Oh, sure!" Jeremy muttered as he handed his bow and arrow holder to her.
"Thank you very much! I will return them to you soon." Leaving her words, Iris disappeared into the bushes.
Turning towards his group of friends, Jeremy asked "What just happened?"
"You were staring at her the whole time, that was all we knew." the group of men echoed in harmony.
Ignoring the group of his teasing friends, Jeremy stared in the direction where she disappeared, the thoughts in his mind unknown. Just when he was about to head in the same direction, the sound of hooves reached his ears.
As the group of men stared dubiously, they soon found Iris heading towards them. Perched upon her black stallion she galloped towards them, her riding posture both regal and domineering.
As the men stared at her with mouths wide open, she strode towards them.
Looking down at the stunned Jeremy Hunter, she said "If you don't want to miss a good show, then you all better follow me."
Tossing her words behind, Iris nudged her horse towards the direction in which Edward Ainsworth had previously left.
...
As he rode back towards the castle, Edward Ainsworth couldn't help but curse in his heart.
That damn chit!
Since when had he apologized to a woman?!
Such a hateful woman!
Spewing a series of curses in his heart, Edward Ainsworth continued to trudge forward.
Soon he heard the sound of hooves approaching him. Thinking that it was Jeremy and his friends, Edward Ainsworth did not put up his guard.
Swoosh!
The sound of an arrow piercing through the air caught his ear.
Since he was deeply thinking, Edward Ainsworth failed to sense the arrow in time.
Feeling a sense of danger on his back, Edward Ainsworth bent to the side. His reflexes were a bit too late as he felt a sharp pain on the side of his neck.
Swoosh!
Before he could come out of his shock, Edward Ainsworth felt another arrow coming towards him. To escape the arrow, he did not think twice before jumping off the horse and rolling on the ground.
