Chapter 16Brian left his unopened briefcase on the worktable in the corner of his office. Whenever he looked in the direction of the case, the grim reminder of its contents quickened his pulse. He could think of little else. Nothing in the office could hold his attention for more than a few seconds. Every time his thoughts returned to the gun, the emotional upheaval seemed to worsen. The only reason to be in the office was to maintain some semblance of normalcy in his life before he went to do what had to be done.
