Chapter 11: I Want to Buy a Single Story Villa

1494 Words
Leaving the Pierrot Group, getting into a taxi, Katie's anxious heart finally settled. "Hello! Let’s go to Hartleys Group." Katie urged in a hurry. With over five million in cash at hand, she felt like she was in a dream, and even now, she couldn't believe it. At the same time, she wanted to see Peter's expression when she brought the money back. He would definitely be more shocked! For the first time, Katie felt a sense of triumph. However... thinking of Paul's behavior just now, Katie couldn't help but furrow her brows. The uncrowned king of Lisle's underground world actually kneeled in front of Adam, begging for forgiveness? Saying it out loud, no one would believe it, and others would definitely call her crazy. "Do you know Paul's boss?" Katie couldn't help asking. Adam, who was thinking about where to buy a house, was slightly stunned at the question. "You mean Black Dragon? Yes, I know him."  Katie's eyes showed a hint of confusion. "Haven't you been away from Lisle all these years?" "We met when we were in the military." Katie nodded. So, that's how it was, and it was similar to her speculation.  "He helped us a lot today. Later, when you bring the money back, thank him with a gift."  "No need, my relationship with him..." "No, we must go. A debt of gratitude is the hardest to repay. Besides... in the end, we are not from the same world. It's better to have less contact to avoid trouble." Adam smiled, "Alright, I'll listen to you. But let's not go back to the company for now. Let's go check out some houses. I can't let you and our daughter live in that kind of place. Do you have any preference on the type of house? Don't worry about the money, just choose whatever you like.?" Katie was startled, her face filled with astonishment. The taxi driver chuckled, taking the initiative to speak, "Hey, bro, I didn't realize you're a millionaire. The places you go are villa areas in Lisle, each one worth tens of millions. Moreover, they're sold by lottery, even if you have the money, it's not guaranteed you can buy one. You need the right status." Adam was also surprised. He didn't know these names were villas; however, it didn't matter. He wanted to provide the best life for Katie and their daughter. "Don't worry, money is not a problem. Which one do you want to live in?" Adam asked. Katie shook her head, "Let's forget about it for now. We don't urgently need a house. Annie and I..." "No, about this, you listen to me. Today, no matter what, we have to buy one. I won't let you and our daughter live in that kind of life for another day." Adam said assertively. Katie was momentarily stunned, unable to come up with any refuting words. However, deep down, she felt warm. Was this what it felt like to be cherished? "If we have to buy a house, I think we should choose one in the Greenhouse District. It has a good environment, good transportation, and most importantly, it's close to a good school. If we lived there, it'd be very convenient for Annie when she starts school. The only problem is the price. Even the cheapest one costs over 100 thousand dollars…" Katie had been keeping an eye on Lisle's real estate market. It was only due to unfortunate circumstances that she was short of money and could not afford to buy a good house. "All right, let's choose one there. Driver, please take us to the Greenhouse District's real estate agency," said Adam. ... Twenty minutes later, the pair arrived at the real estate agency. Adam entered the agency with Katie in tow, the bag they got from Dominick still in his hand. The hall was noisy and full of clients. It seemed that this agency had a certain reputation. "Miss Lane, we have some clients," said the receptionist. Soon after, a woman wearing a black jumper dress came toward them with quick steps. She wore fine make-up and had a smile on her face. Her figure was also quite appealing, and one could not help but be attracted to her curves. However, when she came close enough to see Adam's and Katie's messy clothes, the smile on her face disappeared. She furrowed her brows and shouted at the receptionist, "Jenny, are these the clients you were talking about? Do they look like people who are here to buy a house?" After expressing her dissatisfaction, Linette Lane turned around and said to the couple, "This is not a place for you two. You should leave." She then started waving her hand as if to chase the pair of beggars away. She was in a bad mood today. An important client was supposed to buy a house today but ended up changing their mind, making her lose the $1,500 commission. And now, she was supposed to attend to this pair of beggars... She was the agency's sales champion, so she was very busy and had no time to waste. Adam's face fell, his expression turning cold. Katie gently tugged at his hand, blushing slightly. "We're here to buy a house." Katie gently patted his arm and said with a flushed face, "Actually, we're here to buy a house." "You want to buy a house?" asked Linette. "Do you have any idea how much a single square meter costs? Given your impoverished appearance, you'd be lucky if you could afford to buy a bathroom. How about that? A single bathroom that you can use to go to the toilet! Too bad that we don't sell it here." Linette's voice was rather loud, so all the people in the hall turned around to look in their direction. Katie was even more embarrassed now. She wished she could find a hole to crawl into. Poverty was very good at destroying ambitions, and Linette's words had reopened her old wounds. "We're really here to buy a house," she whispered. Many might say that holding onto that bit of pitiful pride in poverty was pointless, not realizing it was their last shred of dignity. However, Linette unhesitatingly trampled on Katie's dignity, behaving like a queen high above, looking down on them. "We really came to buy a house," Katie whispered. Linette sneered. "Still trying to talk back? Since you can't even afford to buy a mirror, I'll lend you one. Take a good look at yourself. Is your outfit worth more than 200 bucks? And do you even know how ugly and embarrassing your woven bag is? Is it filled with your old clothes? What are you using to buy a house? Are you planning to exchange it for clothes?" "We..." Katie wanted to explain. Adam interrupted directly, "What's with your attitude? Is this how you serve customers? Call your manager." "Haha, you? Customer? Also, you want to talk to my manager? What do you think is going to happen when the manager comes here? Someone like you, who can't even afford to buy a house, wants to have me fired?" said Linette disdainfully. A cold glint flashed in Adam's eyes as he said, "Indeed, today, I want to buy a house and fire you." "Haha, bro, did you forget to take your medicine today? Talking nonsense here? Okay, you want to buy a house? You want to fire me? Try it. I'm standing right here. If you can accomplish one thing today, I'll kneel down and call you grandpa." "Miss Lane, don't be like this... It's my fault for introducing them to you. They're also not easy," the receptionist Jenny, holding two cups of water, walked over and advised quietly. "Humph, do you still dare to say that? Are you blind? Do you think you can be a full-time employee? You want to be a salesperson? Are you worthy? You have no vision at all. You can't do anything right. Go away." Linette scolded, annoyed. "Sorry, Miss Lane." Jenny apologized again and then handed the water cups to Adam and Katie. "Sir, madam, I'm really sorry for the trouble. I apologize to you." Jenny bowed sincerely. Katie's face eased slightly, forcing a smile, "It's okay, it's not your fault. Adam, let's go." "No, we won't leave. We'll buy it today. Miss Jenny, right? Please create a sales order for me." Adam said decisively. "What?" Jenny was stunned, "S-Sir, I'm just a receptionist." "It's you. It doesn't matter. Just do it." Jenny hesitated for a moment, "May I ask how large an area you want to buy? We have 80 ㎡ with two bedrooms, 95 ㎡ with three bedrooms, and 120 ㎡ with..." "No need to read the whole list. I want the best location, the best floor, the whole floor," Adam declared. Jenny's eyes widened instantly. "Sir, um... Did I hear you correctly?" "Yes, what I want is a single-story villa."
