A CIRCUS IS AN ORDERLY affair compared to what greets me when I arrive at Saint Clare’s. Six news vans, two from Baltimore, one from Frederick, a couple from D.C., and one from a Pennsylvania station have all converged on Myerton like moths drawn to a flame. Reporters are dispersed along the sidewalk in front of the parish grounds, each speaking into their microphones while cameramen transmit their images back to their studios live, providing viewers with their morning mayhem to go with their shredded wheat or avocado toast. Other reporters, probably representing newspapers, mill around with their recorders and notepads. Among them I see Nate, who has both a camera and a notebook. I wonder again what he’s doing there. Last I heard, he was selling the documentary he made about Joan’s murd
