CALLUM
Slamming the door shut, I look towards the building overhead, my expression sombre.
Even from afar I could tell there was something off about the building. And there was a sort of foreign energy fluctuatation disturbing the air. Inhaling slightly, I could perceive the strong scent of a familiar distasteful magical aura.
With an irritated sigh I took cautious yet unflinching steps towards the building. My eyes and ears alert for any changes in my surroundings.
The door slid open on its own Accord when I made it a few feets to it. If I wasn't convinced it was her doing before, I was a hundred percent certain now.
Some of my warrior wolves and the hotel staff stood in two straight lines, they're body bent slightly by the waists as they all bowed in the direction of the centre position of the room, where the receptionist table was, and also where the languid figure of a certain ancient witch was sitting.
Her attention was on a small bowl of some sort of fruit she feasted upon. Or it might be goblin eye balls, knowing her she's not above eating that as a delicacy.
"You're late" she abruptly says, attention still locked on her bowl.
"Let them go" I snarl at her, my voice low and demanding.
"Ah ah, you know how things go with me" she cackles. "Now beg me boy" her voice changes into a cacophony of different clashing voices of varying pitches. The sound grating on my nerves.
With a slow shake of my head, I tightened my muscles briefly and in a blink I was across the room, pinning the old witch to the wall and my clawed out hands pressed against her throat. A slight flick of my hands would have her head rolling onto the floor. And from the sharp startled intake of breath and flickering eyes, she knew as well.
"Fine, there" she admits defeat, her eyes flashing purple briefly before the warriors and others sagged to the floor, the control on them vanished.
"Now let's go, the Alpha expects us in 20" I grunt releasing her.
"What a whimp of a man you call Alpha, not worthy of even half the title" she scoffs.
"Control your tongue witch, especially on these lands" I growl baring my fangs at her.
"Hmph!" She huffs simply before leading the way out.
Duchess Victoria was an odd creature. She was neither friend nor foe. Her coven infact makes no allegiance to any other. She is referred to as duchess but is more of a queen in her coven. The queen, her mother was part of the council, and so had her primary responsibilities with them. Things then naturally fell into place for the duchess to rise into power. But she was a sick twisted thing. She's lived almost two centuries but was every bit a deranged woman who acted as a child drunk on power.
She was an extremely powerful witch, who particularly specializes on mind control and hypnosis. She could completely alter your memories however she wants and you'd never be aware of it. And she was capable of much more dangerous things. But for some reason, I was immune to the effects of her powers. The only one known to be. And I could recognized the traces left on the people she used it upon, and help free them with a roar of my wolf.
Not just her alone, I could nullify all magic around me If I so wished. Could breathe and fill it like a second skin. A strong connection with it no werewolf had ever had.
Something I've yet to understand till this day. And something that had intrigued the witch and major powers of the supremes. Had it not been for the Alpha..dad, I would've been made into a test rat, with mad power hungry people trying to pry why I was the way I was.
"It's such a shame" she suddenly says ruefully looking at me from the passenger seat.
"What?" Against better judgement I asked.
"I wanted you for myself for a little bit more, but that nasty goddess of yours always so hateful" she tutts shaking her head.
I felt goosebumps rise on my skin as I took in her old sagging skin, and yellow teeths saying those words. Tho I had no idea what she meant, I was too unsettled to want to keep the conversation going. Witches unlike werewolves and the other supremes did not have reduced aging, but aged as usual. But they were practically immortals. Could live as long as their bodies could hold on. So most of their population were rather terrifying to take in. With only a very small population retaining their youth, after paying a heavy price.
The rest of the journey was fortunately spent in silence, and in just a little while we were in the parking lot of the pack house. The usually half empty lot, filled to the brim today, and so gave us difficulty in picking a spot.
"You use your magic on one person today duchess, one person I will know. And I will find you and make you pay. So you better be on your best behavior Tonight" I threaten her, glowering when she only scoffed at the threat.
"I'll be the least of your worries tonight, be sure to know who to place your energy on." She says seriously for once, before breaking out in a cackle when I went grim.
Not giving me enough to know if she was serious or not. But what I've heard has had me more cautious of tonight. And hopefully no horrible surprises will await me at the end of it.
"Duches-" I start only to curse out loud when she vanished in a poof of purple smoke. Which had me scrunching my nose in distaste.
With a prayer to the Luna goddess to bless this night and to make sure the ceremony goes well, I exited the car and walked towards the building.
Walking to the massive doorway where four of my warriors stood and a worker wolf were checking invites. Making sure no one who wasn't supposed to be here, make themselves in.
Giving them a nod and receiving a salut in return I slipped pass them into the building. My once anxious heart settling when I saw the numerous capable warriors at every corner of the place. All equipped with the latest anti magic equipment so they would not easily fall susceptible to any mind control magic and other similar kind. Not even the duchess could try anything with these men. Rest assured, I walked towards the ballroom on the opposite end of the large building, where the light music and chatters was coming from.
"Calluuuuum" an excited shriek sounded even before I could see the figure of the small cheeky boy.
Opening my arms wide, I grinned delightfully when Levi's bouncing figure came running towards me. Bracing myself for impact, I grunt softly when he jumped on me. Tho he wasn't heavy at all, he liked to think he was so I always humoured him.
"I missed you" he says, his voice muffled against my shoulders.
My heart immediate squeezed in guilt at that, it was my fault for not coming home always. But pack duties will wait for no one. Especially when am the only one the Aloha trusts with crucial tasks. His beta and gamma more for show than anything.
"Am sorry, I'll be home more often I promise" I say, reaching over to ruffle his already mussed up hair.
"Ahh don't mess up my hair" he giggles, wiggling in my arms.
"Okay okay calm down, where's marmee at?" I ask, balancing him properly on me before continuing on into the ballroom.
It was a once wide expanse of empty room, but today it was beautifully decorated and had these tall small tables scattered around. There were plenty of guests almost 600 in number already, but the ballroom still looked too big for the number. But with the remaining guests yet to come, it's sure to look that way.
With a quick glance of the room I could spot Alpha...dad, standing in the middle of some men talking and laughing animatedly with them. And just at the same moment he noticed me, giving me a wide grin he waved me over. I wanted to see marmee first, but time to socialize I guess.
"Hey go on now, greet marmee for okay" I say to Levi, squeezing him in a hug one last time, before setting him back down on the floor. He pouted in reluctance a bit, before bouncing away when he was called by one of the wolf pups he plays with.
Knowing dad wouldn't want him to mingle with those people too much, I had to let him go. But Goddess I missed him already. I missed home. I missed marmee. I missed her...
"I believe you know my son Callum" dad says reaching over to give me a side hug. Dad and I were of similar build, tho he was bulkier where I was taller. But it wasn't too obvious in a short glance.
I stretch my lips in a practiced fake smile as I took the four men in. A vampire in a victorian English attire, a sun elf in white robes, a werewolf in a suit and a shirtless minotaur who had on short pants and a bow tie on his shirtless body.
"I've heard much about you" the sun elf spoke first, his voice soft and ethereal. He reeked power from where he stood, his smile chilling as he spoke.
My wolf tensed and I knew then, this man was dangerous. Many times more than the duchess. Will I be able to nullify his magic? I knew not. But he doesn't scare me.
"I'm Elrand of Edhellond" he introduces, his hands raised for a handshake.
With only a slight hesitation I firmly took his hand, only to almost reel back in shock when a numbing almost painful sensation crept from where our hands intertwined, but it had lasted all but a second before it faded to none.
"Impossible!" Elrand hisses, letting go of my hand in shock and some hints of fear.
"What did you do?" I glower, moving to him as I glared down at him. He shrank bank in unease.
"Enough Callum" Alpha spoke, his hands on my shoulder to calm me, but his gaze was locked onto the sun elf. His eyes flashing a red cycle around his usual brown orbs, a sign of his wolf peeking out. He was very very upset.
"Leave elf" Alpha spoke, his voice dark and dangerous.
"B-but the a-alliance-" he stuttered to explain himself.
"Edhellond is no and will never be an ally of mine, leave now or invoke war upon your tribe" Alpha growls, his eyes flashing red completely before fading back to brown.
Soon two warriors were upon us, as they escorted the agitated elf. The thick scent of his fear almost suffocating.
"Now anyone else want to harm my son or do you wanna talk sport" Alpha grins at the three men, who shook their heads and laughed awkwardly.
While I stood there dumbstruck at the sudden change of events, before shaking my head in with a small smile.
It was going to be a looong night.
