"Rory, is there anything about her you haven't told me yet? Maybe something illegal? Any illness?" Bastian asked his assistant.
"No, sir. There's nothing I don't already know," the bespectacled man responds, with obvious tension.
Bastian looks at me again and seems to ponder it, though he doesn't have a specific expression.
"Fine. We'll do it," he tells me, with a face so serious that I start to think he's not giving me an answer to a marriage proposal.
"It will be beneficial for both of us," I said, not knowing what else to add.
The other men remained silent.
"I know. Let my team handle everything. By the end of today, we'll be married," Bastian says, looking me in the eyes with a warning, "You better be prepared."
I nod slowly. What have I gotten myself into?
Rory, the assistant, takes care of getting all my details and contact information to stay in touch with me.
Bastian leaves with his men as if nothing had happened.
My heart is pounding so hard in my chest that I feel it might pop out of place.
I look around, and now I also need to follow my path.
Just as I take two steps, my phone starts ringing. The sender is Aran.
"Can you tell me where you are, Larissa? I've been waiting for you in your office for more than half an hour. Why haven't you arrived?" Aran insists in an annoyed tone.
"I was having breakfast with my mother, besides, you're the one who texted me that you'd be busy today. I'm on my way there now," I said, not really understanding what this man wanted.
"That's not a problem; I always have time for you, cutie. You know I love you," he replies, but there's something in his voice that disgusts me.
"Thanks, love. You're so romantic," I said, and even though I'm using sarcasm, Aran would never notice anything like that.
He's too confident.
I hung up the call without further delay and headed towards the company, which is only two blocks away.
How can he be so shameless? Having been with Paola just a few hours ago, he comes and tries to convince me that he loves me.
My steps hasten until I reach the company, especially to my office.
Once inside, I see that Aran is settled in my desk chair, as if that space were his.
"Welcome, Miss Weasley," he says, playing the gentleman.
He stands up from the chair and offers it to me as if it were a privilege.
I took a seat without further ado.
"What brings you here, dear?" I asked, getting straight to the point.
"I wanted to know how you were, and also ask you for something," he expressed, scratching his head.
"Tell me, you have all my trust," I continued, to see how far an unfaithful man can go.
"Well, I know that. I want to ask you for new sketches of yours; you work magic with your hands, beautiful. Our company needs you now more than ever in its anniversary month. Different groups will come internationally. I must make sure to keep up with the designs," he says, sounding like a silly child, or macabre, depending on how you look at it.
I grip the pen in my hand, almost to the point of breaking it.
"Don't worry, I'll make you some very good plans," I responded with a fake smile.
I know it's just to give them to Paola. That's why she's been gaining a good reputation. By leaning on my work.
They don't know who they've messed with.
He smiles back at me and kisses me on the forehead.
"I knew I could count on you."
Having said that, he leaves my office.
After the workday, I received a text message. It's from Bastian.
"I'll see you at the civil registry entrance in half an hour. Rory will pick you up in ten minutes."
I swallow hard. This is really happening.
I don't even have time to change my clothes, but I go to the bathroom to freshen up a bit to look decent.
I'm wearing a tight skirt and a shirt that looks like a secretary's, but it changes when accompanied by my beautiful gray blazer with pearl details.
I don't even know why I'm dressing up so much; I mean, all of this has a single purpose.
Revenge.
I try to remind myself of it as a mantra while going down to the company entrance, and I know very well that Aran is not there; he ran to Paola's arms after I gave him several plans.
I take a deep breath before going out, and when I do, the car I saw earlier is the same one parked in front of the building.
Rory immediately gets out and opens the back door for me.
I nod in gratitude, and when we're both inside the car, we head to the meeting point.
No one says anything throughout the journey, but it's not an awkward silence.
I look at the sky and how beautiful it is in this sunset, with orange and blue tones, perfect for taking a picture.
We arrived around fifteen minutes later, and Bastian was already waiting for us there.
"Come on, they've been waiting for us to start," he says and starts walking.
I follow him closely, or at least I try to.
There's a long line of people outside with the same plans as us.
Just like Aran and Paola. Are they already married?
I sighed, and then we entered the facilities, where, due to this man's contacts, they permit him to enter whenever he wants.
They made us move forward to a very nice office where we had to sign the papers.
I'm surprised to see that they already have everything prepared; they need both of us to sign.
My hands tremble, but I sign when the time comes.
Bastian does too, and he looks beautiful from the side.
I blink, trying to avoid those kinds of thoughts.
When we left, it was already dark.
"Well, now we're married," he says, as if it were the most normal thing in the world.
I nod, and as we're going towards the car, I see Aran and Paola in line.
My heart hurt at that moment.
"Hey, Larissa. Your mind must be here and now," Bastian speaks to me, grabbing me by the shoulders, then letting go "Besides, now you must fulfill your marital duties," he informs me.
"Marital duties?" I asked, with suddenly red cheeks.
"It's our wedding night," he reminds me. "At least, you must fulfill that".
I realized what he wanted, and I felt like fainting at that moment.
He wants us to be together tonight.
