Harlan pulled Harlyn to stop him. Harlyn was annoyed. "Harlan, don’t tell me you have a real crash on her!"
Harlyn used the word ‘her’ instead of ‘my sister’ to refer to Aurora.
It was clear there was tension in their family.
Harlan bit his lip and said quickly, "Harlyn, who I have a crush on has nothing to do with you. We made a bet two days ago, and you lost. So now I am asking you to do one thing for me."
Harlyn looked at him reluctantly and had already guessed what that one thing was.
Harlyn hesitated for a minute, then finally made his decision and sat back down on the lawn. He was silent the whole time, he buried his head in his phone.
Aurora also sat on the lawn, she looked at Harlyn. Although her younger brother was behaving coldly toward her, Aurora chose to face the reality no matter how hard it was.
She asked, "Harlyn, how is your mother?"
In fact, Aurora had been thinking about her mother since she got a second chance at the hospital. She was eager to visit her, but she didn’t think she would get the chance.
Harlyn's body stiffened when she asked him about their mother. He turned to look straight into Aurora’s eyes. His eyes watered and he paused for a moment, finally he said,
"I do not know."
Aurora immediately freaked out.
"Harlyn, why do you treat me like this? She is your mom as well as mine! I really want to know about her situation. I miss her every day. Your father did kick me out, but I’m still her daughter. How can you deprive me of my right to care about her? "
Harlyn's indifferent attitude depressed Aurora, and she believed that Harlyn hated her. She thought he was trying to cut the ties between her and her mother.
"I really don't know. Dad doesn’t allow me to visit her either."
Perhaps he was moved by his sister’s sadness and anxiety. His expression showed a sign that he cared. He had finally given her an explanation.
Aurora couldn’t help but frown when she heard his answer. "Why?"
She had originally thought her father had just banned her from ever seeing her mother, she did not expect that he had done the same to his biological son.
"I don't know." Harlyn finally stood up and left.
Harlan looked at the brother and sister. It seemed that they had been isolated from each other and there was a huge, empty space between them. He couldn't help but sigh. He looked at Aurora,
"Aurora, don't take his words so hard. Harlyn just has that kind of personality, and he doesn’t mean to hurt you."
Aurora bit her lips and didn't answer.
It was not her younger brother who she was concerned about. It was her mother. Why? Why was their father treating their mother like that?
Of course, their mother had made a few mistakes, but her father certainly was not innocent. He was unfaithful to his family as well. He supported his mistress and his bastard daughter secretly. Butterflies stirred in Aurora’s stomach when she thought about her parents.
If Harlyn couldn’t visit her mother, what kind of situation was her mother in?
Aurora bit her lips. It seemed like she would have to find a way to visit her mother.
Because of the sadness and anxiety, Aurora spent most of her PE time sitting on the lawn, brooding. It seemed like she had lost her wits.
Harlan sat beside her the entire time. He really did like her.
"Aurora, don't take things so hard, everything will be fine." Harlan added.
"Well, thank you." Aurora replied.
Although his words didn’t help much, Aurora still appreciated Harlan’s comfort and companionship.
Aurora's cell phone rang, it was Caldwell.
Aurora picked the cell phone up. "What's the matter?"
"Aurora, I will give you three minutes. Leave your toy boy and come to the school gate, now."
Caldwell Elliott’s voice sounded gloomy and weighted because of the anger he felt.
