Caldwell looked at the picture that Lune had sent him and, almost instantly, the trust that he’d invested in Aurora began to crumble. He remembered how puzzled he’d been when, after being offered three hundred million dollars for her jade, she had turned the offer down. He never would have guessed that she had reserved it only to gift it to Felix once it had been carved to perfection.
Caldwell’s face became an icy mask as he closed his phone, jammed it into his pocket, and left his office without a single word to anyone. Seeing his expression, one of his business partners looked at the others and wondered, “Did we do something wrong and piss him off?”
“But we didn’t make any mistakes at all!” someone replied.
Not knowing what was going on in Caldwell’s mind, their worry turned to panic.
