While Ash muttered notes into his phone, recording his observations, Eve looked around. They were nearing the head of a small valley. A pine wood rose on one side. The head of the valley, protected from the sun on three sides, was in shadow, but a tongue of the glacier from the mountain-peak above extended all the way down to its base. Even now, cold air seemed to flow out of it like the gate to some chilly netherworld. Eve stopped and c****d her head, squinting. There was something strange about the snow at the base of the glacier. The angles were all wrong. Almost…geometrical. And there, almost hidden by the shadows. Was that an…opening? A cave?
