Deuce pulled up to the large, two-story house where he’d grown up. He got out of the truck and gazed at it with a wave of nostalgia. The house had originally been built by his great-great grandparents in the 1870s, and the family had never let it fall into disrepair. His mother stood alone on the porch, not surprising considering the time of day. His father and brothers would be out riding fences or moving their small cattle herd from one pasture to another. “Andrew, it’s really you?” Ma was the only one who called him by his given name. “Yes, ma’am, it is.” She came down from the porch and embraced him. “I’m glad you’re home.
