Chapter 9 We scrambled down the steep path until it met the lakeside road. Then Jessica and Michelle turned to the left to continue following the road to the north. I had walked this way a few times before while I was just out wandering on my own. It was all residential, the houses set far from the road, more a walk in the woods than anything. The strip of land between rocky bluff and the shore was narrower here, but the trees were thicker. The aspens and birch had lost their foliage, but the evergreens that dominated were full and tall, blocking any possible line of sight up to the highway.
