Chapter 4 Eli stared at Jarrett. Mention of Fong was a buzzkill, his exhilarated mood vaporizing as he realized Jarrett hadn’t contacted him for personal reasons at all. “You said you worked for the mayor of Aurora,” he accused. “I do.” Jarrett scrubbed a hand over his bald scalp in obvious frustration. He’d done that a couple times inside, too, but Eli had assumed it was because pointing it out to him made him self-conscious. Now, he wondered if it was a nervous gesture. If it was, this whole night had been completely different than he’d thought. “Look, we can’t talk about this here. Why don’t we—” Eli jerked away when Jarrett attempted to grab his arm.
