Mia's POV
She dashes towards the bed where I'm lying in fear, she attempts to pounce on me but before she could do this, Gavin is already on top of her pulling her away and farther from me. I breathe a sigh of relief but still I know we are not done, she isn't done with me, my heart bleeds seeing the fate I've gotten into. I'm now beginning to see the threat she just made, I didn't believe it until now. From her statement, she claims to be his wife but no one has ever spoken of Gavin as being married before. If true, she has to be his secret wife, something I'm just puzzled about. If he loves her, why keep her a secret? God knows I wouldn't follow him if I knew he had a wife already.
Her eyes darken with anger, she struggles with Gavin but he grabs her firmly from behind, clasping her hands together to prevent her from escaping from his grip to hurt me. "Dress up, Mia. You need to get out of her, go to your room and lock yourself in until I ask you to come out." He shouts out to me.
Like a frightened girl, which I am right now, I scurry off the bed, bend to pick up my robe and hastily put it on, my legs are shaking, not only my legs, my heart as well, I search round for my slippers, finally found it under the bed, I pull them out so fast and put them on, then I stop, this is an underground, I remember seeing the maid lock the entrance door to this place after we passed through and even if she didn't, I wouldn't be able to trace my way up especially in the dark. I turn to look helplessly on Gavin.
"Emma, please forgive me. I don't want you to do anything outrageous, remember that I'm the Alpha, your Alpha, I wouldn't spare you if you go against the law. Remember there are consequences for everything."
"You don't have the guts to do that, you dare not try it or else your life is gone. So you know there is a rule after all the crimes you have committed. I'd overlooked them because it had nothing to do with me but I wouldn't overlook you taking in another mate. We are meant to be as one forever."
Emma grunts, struggling so hard that I fear she is going to escape Gavin's grip. She growls like a wounded lioness, her eyes gradually switch to yellow. I'm beginning to feel her shifting energy, but in a flash, it dies down. Gavin has aborted the energy. I breathe a sigh of relief, she might have ripped me to pieces.
"Is that the agreement we made when we first met and agreed to be with each other, when you met me you said you were gonna be faithful? You met me in a depressed state because no man was willing to love me, I was too masculine for them, you were thrilled by my performances in the military. You took me as your own, promising to marry me one day after I resigned from the special force. You were gonna be my husband, why did you break your promise all of a sudden and choose to go with your fated mate after all the hope?" Though she is my riGavin and wants to attack me, I still feel the pains in her voice and eyes. I try to imagine being in her condition, it's a painful thing but there's nothing she can do. Alphas prefer to marry their fated mates more than chosen ones, their fated mates gives them the strength and longevity they need."
"I thought I was never gonna meet my mate, but I truly loved you………"
"To hell with your love, if I reach this girl you call your mate, I'm gonna rip her throat with my knife." I gasp as she says this.
"Gavin, I need to get out of here!" My voice shakes as I say this. I will be placing myself under great danger if I continue here. I don't know how she will accidentally slip out of Gavin's hand and then she will attack me with the knife stuck to her hips. "Where can I get out of here, please?"
"Go over to your left, the opposite of where you came, there is an open path that leads to a tunnel which will lead up, tell the guards at the end of the tunnel that you got the permission from me, for them to let you pass." He didn't finish this when I took to my heels.
"As long as you live in this estate, I'm gonna catch up with you, I'll surely deal with you." Emma shouts at me but I play deaf ears, I remember Gavin's instruction, to go to the room he showed me to as mine and lock myself in till he says otherwise. This is exactly what I'm gonna do, I run further without looking back. On the walls are dim golden lamps illuminating the hallway which leads out of the building to the tunnel as Gavin had directed.
"Run! Run! Run!" I feel a voice urge me, it's gonna be my wolf, it pushes me forward because he senses a looming distance. As I draw near to the guard point, my heart falls. This is where I would waste time because they will surely stop me to ask questions. I realize that the faster I run, the earlier I'll arrive and the faster I'll leave for safety. Though I'm getting exhausted and breathing so hard, I don't stop.
"Hey, hey, stop!" One of the guards shouts at me as I run towards them, I would have run past but that will make them suspect me more, since they are armed with guns, they might shoot me in the legs and this is the point Emma would catch up with me."
"Where are you going?" The second man out of the eight that are standing here barks, pointing his gun directly at me. My eyes shake randomly in their sockets with my legs as well. I come to a halt.
"The Alpha, Gavin asked you to let me pass, I'm being pursued by his……" I'm not sure if everyone knows about this secret wife of his, as the name goes, she is secret. What if Gavin got angry after discovering what I told them, this isn't what he asked me to say to them. I don't want to complicate issues. "Someone is after my life, please let me go!"
I'm not done with my pleas when I hear some heavy race steps towards me. I turn.
It's Emma.
A cardiac attack transcends over me, my heart pulse begins to go down, the way I feel and my eyes literally dull. Emma charges towards me, I see that my strength is failing, I want to drop to the floor and surrender unto death but then the guards gather up and seize her, they hold her so tight that she can't progress further to where I am. Gavin rushes up from a distance. That strength which was failing inside of me is regained, I rise up and start to run once more. I give thanks to the moon goddess, she has saved me today. I hasten my steps upstairs to my room, where I push open the door and get in, locking it back before Emma is right here, same imagination I had when at the guard point where they held me up for questioning. I fell to the ground as soon as I had locked the door, but I'm glad I'm saved now, at least for the meantime.
I remained there on the floor for what seems to be eternity. I even slept off for hours but in what seemed like a dream, I heard violent clashes. The barkings of a lady's voice seemed to tower above them all, I woke up right after this. Everywhere is as silent as a graveyard where no exists. Inside of me I'm still panicking, I look at myself, I'm still in the robes I wore to the underground chambers of Gavin. The next thing my mind goes to is the time, I raise my eyes to look at the clock on the world.
"What!" I scream, I have been on the floor for nearly four hours, and this is the early part of the morning. It's 3:18 PM. I try remembering what Gavin told me last, he said I should remain in here until he said otherwise. I'd been asleep, so even if Gavin had come up to say something, I wouldn't hear. Over the years, suffering, pains and rejection added with the severe mental stress I just faced had weakened the sensitivity of my wolf. If not for this, I would wake under the slightest sound.
I sluggishly walk over to the bed where I lay until morning. I'm glad as I have a bathroom and toilet right inside here, with a wardrobe full of clothes. Gavin must have set up everything before I even arrive in his pack. I literally do everything I have to do without going outside. I get dressed, sit on the bed waiting for him to come. I surely believe there will be an instruction, someone will come tell me what to do. To avoid getting hurt, I'll not open my door and go out on my own account.
Fifty minutes later from my constant watching of the clock, I receive a knock on the door. "Who's that?" I ask from inside, I sense the need to be sure before opening as I wouldn't want to risk my life. It could even be Emma attempting to attack me this early morning particularly as my apartment is situated in a calm, secluded place. Something might happen and no one knows.
I listen to hear the voice. "Hey Mia," a deep but unfamiliar tone looms, I hold my chest. Who could this be? "I'm Alpha Gavin's Beta and Gamma, Achilles. He asked me to inform you of the urgent meeting which has been conducted to decide your fate. It's with regret that because of you, Emma has destroyed quite a lot of properties, threatening to destroy even lives of people dear to the Alpha if something is not done with you remaining here."
"Arrghh!"
I start to imagine how one person is the Beta and also the Gamma, but this wasn't the main thing to worry about, I had to heed to this request.
"But Gavin is my mate, I also promised to stay with him, if I'm making any decision for myself, it has to be from me and not forced." I reply from inside, as I lean on the door without opening it.
"I have nothing else to say apart from what the Alpha directed me to come to you to say. The entire Alpha family has set a panel, you are invited for a hearing of your case, by 11 AM prompt. Get ready! Your fate will be decided here." As soon as he said this, he turned and walked away. I can hear his steps down the hallway, fading away with each passing seconds. I unlean from the door, returning to my bed sluggishly like a drunken woman.
I have barely three hours to know my fate, two extreme ends which are deadly dangerous, either staying with Gavin and facing his demon or going away from the pack to embrace a hard, dangerous life out there as a rogue because my pack will never want me.
It's forbidden to take in a rejected mate, it's considered to regenerate into a generational curse.
