Chapter 1

Long ago in a not so distant past there was said to live a girl. She was no ordinary girl but one said to have a special ability, one that was far stranger than magic. By this point in time the world knew of witches, wolves, vampires along with many other supernatural beings. But this girl was not among any of those. No, she was much more different. The world.was unsure if they should call her a witch. After all there was no known witch known to do what she was able. She was the line between life and death. The one person that could see what the world could not. She could see the dead. Marilyn Sinclair was born to a Commoner family. One that wasn't necessarily poor but neither rich. The imperial year was 897 and Marilyn was 20 years old. For her it was another normal day. But how quickly that would change.... "My apologies Miss Edna but I'm afraid I cannot stay" Marilyn said as she rushed to the door. "Oh but Mari you must, I'm sure he will return shortly" Miss Edna said as she tried to catch up with Mari. "I must go as I have to collect some herbs for my mother but I will meet him tomorrow" Mari said before quickly leaving. "What a strange girl" Miss Edna said to herself. "At this rate she will never be wed" she added. Mari quickly ran into the nearby forest with a basket in hand. She was already running behind and her mother had requested her to bring the herbs by sundown. As Mari searched for the herbs her mother had asked for, she suddenly heard a branch break from behind her. She quickly turned around. "Is someone there?" Mari asked, followed by a gulp. "Suddenly a large black wolf came out from behind the trees. The large black wolf growled but Mari moved not an inch. For it wasn't the wolf she stared at but the thing next to it. It was a man or a ghost who appeared to be in his late 20s with blonde hair and brown eyes as well as a scruffy beard; he appeared to be a noble at one point. The ghostly man tilted his head as he stared back at Mari. "You can see me?" He Questioned before Mari looked down at the wolf. Mari let out a shaky breath. "You're one of those creatures are you not?" She asked. "A werewolf I believe their called?" She added, as the wolf just stared back at her. "I mean to cause you no trouble sir I'm just here to collect herbs for my mother, she's the village doctor" she added as she saw how the Wolf's shoulder appeared to be injured. "You look as if you injured your shoulder" she said before making eye contact with him. "Later when you transform back to your human form come by the village and say Mari sent ya, they'll send you my way and my mother and I can patch you right up" she told him. She was silent for a moment. "My apologies, but the sun is soon to set, I must be on my way" she told the wolf before turning and slowly walking away. As soon as the girl was out of sight the large black wolf shifted I to his human form out of the trees a man appeared with clothes, and he quickly put them on. "Find out who that girl is and her intentions?" The man said. "Yes your highness" the man next to him said with a bow. The noble man who was a wolf and shifted into a man was Damien James, Alpha Of the Crescent pack and King of the wolves. Damien began to walk in the direction Mari had walked. "Where are you going?" Biden his beta had asked. "To have my shoulder patched up" Damien replied simply as he continued to walk. In reality he didn't need to follow Mari; his wolf healing would take care of it sooner or later for him, but there was something about her. Something different that he just couldn't explain without trying to find out more. The first clue was that she didn't smell human. But she also didn't smell like any supernatural he had met before. But to him the strangest part was how she acted around his wolf form. How she talked to him and showed no fear. Most just ran when they saw a supernatural but not her. Mari made it back to her home and handed her mother the basket of herbs she had brought along with her. "Not many herbs today I see" her mother Victoria said as she looked in the basket. "I'm afraid Miss Edna held me up especially long today," Mari told her mother. "Is she still trying to marry you off to her grandson?" Her mother asked. "It seems as if it's her life goal at this point" Mari replied. Suddenly there was a knock on their door. "I'll get it," Mari said as she walked to the door. When she opened it a tall handsome nobleman with black hair and green eyes stood in front of her, and behind him the ghost Mari had seen earlier. "Please come in," Mari said hesitantly. "Hello my lord, is there something I can do for you?" Victoria asked, wiping her hand with a cloth as she walked towards Mari and Damien. "I was hunting in the area and was attacked by a wolf, I heard you were the best healer around" he said simply as he looked at Mari. "Marilyn got the supplies from the next room" her mother told her and Marilyn did as she said. "Excuse me but how can you see me?" The ghost asked as he followed her to the next room. "It's just something I can do," Mari said as she gathered the supplies her mother needed. "But why?" He asked. "I don't know why," she told him. "Now if you'll excuse me" she said before walking past him. TO BE CONTINUED
