Chris's POV
The second Violet mind linked me that she and Star needed help, my wolf and I let out a loud growl, causing everyone near me to fall silent. "We need to get to the meeting place, NOW!" I'll explain later, I thought to myself as I darted out the front entrance, the moment I was out the door. I could hear everyone and the warriors shifting and soon passing me as they are much faster than I am. Thinking of my mate and daughter being in danger though, has me running faster than I ever had in my life. I quickly catch up to Alice, Landon, and the royal men.
Blood. Blood and..ashes? I sniff the air once more to make sure what I was smelling was correct. My question is answered when we finally make it to the meeting spot and see dead wolves and piles of ashes scattered in different areas. What the hell happened?A more important question is who the f**k is that guy and why is he shoving his bloody wrist in Nova's mouth!
Star looks calmer than Violet does, and the second Violet catches my eyes on her, she comes running to me. I open my arms wide for her and hug her as tight against my chest as possible. My wolf is happy to have our mate near us, yet pissed at her for lying to us.
I was about to ask her about the mysterious vampire, but then I noticed he was no longer there by the time I looked back up. Had I imagined things? Was he even there to begin with?
A loud thud had me and Violet looking behind us and there he was, the vampire. "King or not, I will start a war against your clan for touching my princess. Who are you and what the hell were you doing to her?" King Landon shouted at what I now learned was the vampire king. He had him pinned against a tree, but the vampire didn't bother to break free from the grasp around his throat. I know damn well he could've easily gotten away, so why didn't he? To say I was intrigued by this conversation would be an understatement. Of course, I wouldn't be here if the royals weren't. Vampires are f*****g scary and I'm not afraid to admit that. Yes, we get along with them fairly well, especially since we're the only pack to have had a vampire in our own pack. That still doesn't mean that the vampires that I don't know personally are just as kind as the ones that we have come across so far.
The silence around us implied that we were all listening and waiting for the king or queen to give the next order. "Aunt Alice, Uncle Landon. He means no harm. I assure you. Please, may we invite him back to the palace to speak in private?" I definitely did not see that coming.
"FINE, but only because we trust YOU, not HIM." King Landon expressed sternly before having his men escort the vampire back with us. Alice has been holding Nova since we've arrived and the little girl looks pale. I can't tell if she has a heartbeat or not considering the amount of people in one area. I'm assuming, with Alice not saying anything about the matter, that it means Nova is still alive. Otherwise, I doubt this vampire king would be coming with us to the royal palace.
Alice's POV
I was ready to kill the man who dared be near my baby girl. Star must have sensed that, so she somehow made my body and Landon's freeze. Like, we literally could not move. I linked our warriors to tell them to not go any further. "Explain. NOW!" I link Star, clearly enraged. "He means no harm and despite what you see, Nova IS alive. Okay? Liam will explain everything else." I didn't reply to her and neither did Landon, but she then unfroze us when she was done speaking.
I knew how my mate would respond, and I wasn't going to hold him back. He grabbed the vampire that had his wrist in Nova's mouth and threw him against a tree, pinning him to the spot. I, on the other hand, ran straight to Nova and took her swiftly from Star's arms. Tears were flowing from my eyes, blurring my vision as I held my baby in my arms once again.
"Our pup! Why can't I hear her heartbeat? I WILL kill that bastard!" My wolf was begging to come to the surface, but I had enough self-control to hold her back. I understand her and I feel livid at this whole situation, but I trust Star. She's the future moon goddess for crying out loud. She would never put her own family in danger, so there must be a really good reason for her to allow this stranger near my princess.
