Chapter 15: Nettles and SomersaultsJohn pretended he wasn’t relieved when he cracked the door open and once again spied Zachary on his doorstep. The night had been horrible. Not even his bedroom had been safe enough, and he didn’t know why. He didn’t remember the dream when he’d woken up on the sofa, but since he’d been fighting it must’ve been bad. Once he’d realised Zachary was there, he’d wanted to curl up on his lap and hide, but he couldn’t. A man like Zach wouldn’t want someone like him clinging to him. John wasn’t worthy of being close to anyone. He was tarnished, spoiled. But it didn’t stop his heart from doing a little somersault when Zachary grinned. “Good morning. Did you sleep well?” “I…erm, yeah sure.” Zachary’s smile faltered a little. “I’ll have to take your word for it.”
