OBIANUJU I couldn't stop smiling as I watched Ademilade changed into his pyjamas,he was just too perfect. His slim build and black curly hair complemented his brown eyes, making him so attractive. Handsome was indeed an understated way. "Are you done checking me out?"The sudden sound of his voice jarred me out of my crazy thoughts. "I am not checking you out."I denied and looked away from him, blushing hard. "Oh I see." he muttered softly. "Go get me something to eat."he reached for his laptop and collapsed in a chair. "Alright sir."I drawled and lazily dragged myself out of bed, every muscle in my body shrieking in protest. "What should I get for you?" I asked him. "Anything." he replied without looking at me, his intense gaze was fixed on the laptop as he typed into it. He was working, I guess! I walked out of the room and climbed down the short stairs into the sitting room. Stepping into the kitchen, I found the pregnant lady cooking. So she can cook. I completely ignored her and ambled to the refrigerator. I opened it and began searching for something edible when I heard a faint sniffling sound. I turned in the direction and stopped short. The pregnant lady was leaning against the kitchen cabinet crying her eyes out, looking so pitiful. Is she alright? I doubt it. "Are you alright ?" I found myself asking. She looked at me and blinked a few times. "Are you talking to me?"She had a surprise look on her face. "Who else would I be talking to?" I scoffed silently. "Or is there any one else here?" "No."She gasped out the word and averted her gaze from me, staring down at her fingers "You can choose not to talk." I quickly added, seeing the change in her countenance. With that, I took a canned food out of the refrigerator, shut the door and started towards the entrance. "Today is my dad's death anniversary."her words brought me to a halt. Her dad! I turned around and faced her. "I am so sorry."I muttered, feeling a great pity for her. I understood her pains. Losing a parent is one of the deepest sorrows a heart can know. "Thanks."Her tears rolled down on her cheeks. "He... was ...a ...good ...father ... to.. me." She choked out her words. I exhaled deeply and moved closer to her. "I believe he is in heaven watching over you." I put my arm around her and patted her shoulder to comfort her. "Really?" her eyes lit up. I nodded slowly. "How did he die?" I asked calmly "I don't know."she refused to answer but I saw the fear in her eyes. "You don't know." I snickered at the weird look on her face. "Unbelievable!" "He had an accident." She retorted."No,he died peacefully in his sleep."She rasped, her breathing ragged. Her response got me so confused, Which one should I believe? I wondered. "And that is more reason why I want to keep this child." She touched her belly lightly through her top. "I just need someone to call my own." A stabbing pain surged through my body, weighing me down. It was like my soul was been ripped into a million pieces. She wants to keep her child, Demi's child! "I know I am hurting you with my actions."She took my hand into hers. "But please try and understand me." She looked at me pleadingly. For a moment I stared at her blankly and then smiled with comprehension. "It is alright." I assured her. It wasn't her fault, was it? "After all, we are both the same trying to tie a man down with pregnancy."I blurted out and gasped as I realised what I have done. I never intended to say that out. "Are you pregnant?"The look on her face was priceless. "Well." I shrugged lightly. "I could be." I smiled at the thought of being pregnant. "You are lucky girl."she said with a wry smile. "I know." I held my head up high. But wait a minute! A question suddenly popped into my head. How did she get to know Demi? "How did you meet Demi?" I threw the question to her "You mean Troy?"She looked dreamily up at the ceiling. "His mum and mine are like sisters." Like seriously! "Didn't he tell you?" A triumphant smile appeared on her face. "I didn't bother asking." I merely replied. "You should go home, there is no room for you here."I pointed out to her. "Did Troy ask you to tell me this?"her eyes looked sad and she had deep frown lines in her forehead. "No." I shook my head slightly. "It is just an advice from his ....fiancée." I laid emphasis on the last word."Which is me." I completed. "Oh." She nodded slowly. "Thanks for the advice." "You are welcome." I forced a sarcastic smile and walked out of the kitchen, smiling to myself as I climbed up the stairs to the room. Entering, I was in time to see Ademilade end a phone call. "Who was that?" I questioned. "My mum's lawyer."he replied. His mum! I stared at him, totally confused. Hasn't she been dead for long? Well! I shrugged off the thoughts and moved closer to him. "I had a one on one conversation with the pregnant lady." I told him, placing the canned food on the table beside him. "Emma?" His eyes popped out in surprise "Yup." I nodded. "Today is her dad death anniversary and I tried consoling her." I explained. "Oh."he reached for the canned food and began munching away. "So........." I collapsed on the bed and looked into his laptop. "What are you working on?" "Hospital files." He replied. Hospital! I screwed up my eyes as I scanned through the page. "Mac—Adams."I spelt out the first word . "What is that?" I looked at him. "My hospital...Erm.... I mean .....our ....hospital." he spoke with a pronounced stutter. "No." I frowned at his words. "Theresa-Louisa is the name of our .............." "I will explain everything to you later."he cut me short. "Alright."I easily agreed and fell on the bed. "Come to bed." "Let me be done with this first."he threw the empty can on the floor and proceeded to type into his laptop. "No, it is already late." I insisted. "Let's sleep now." "Fine."He reluctantly placed the laptop on the surface and joined me on the bed. "I don't want you talking to Emma again." he warned, pulling the cover over us. "Why?" I snuggled up close and rested my head on his shoulder. "Because she is bad luck." I could feel his hot breathe on my neck. Bad luck! How?She doesn't seem like that to me, she looked so innocent and confused. "Alright." I simply agreed, not wanting to argue with him. "Good night." Despite my best effort to stay awake, my eye lid became heavy, and I fell into a deep and dreamless sleep. * Emma. An intense pain in my lower abdomen disrupted my sound sleep. I blinked my eyes open groggily and winced at the bright sunlight that flooded my face. It was morning already. Stretching, I yawned softly and began to sit up when I noticed the big red stain on the bed. It took a while for the message to sink in,and then I screamed out loud. My period! Oh no, it can't be!! I jumped out of bed, removed the bed sheet and flung it under the wardrobe; then I reached for my phone which was on the drawer and dialled my mum number. She picked up half way through the second ring. "Mum." I screamed over the phone. "I am coming home right now." I ended the phone call. What is wrong with me? I panicked, my mind filled with fear. Did I have a miscarriage? I desperately needed an answer. Taking off my nighty, I rushed into the bathroom and had a quick bath. I returned to the room feeling weak and shaky. Left with no other option, I made use of a tissue paper and hurriedly changed into a black gown. I ran my hands through my hair and clamped my hat on my head and put on a white sandals. "It will be alright."I assured myself. I picked up my car keys and tiptoed out of the room, down the stairs into the sitting room, careful not to make a sound. Then I opened the front door gently and rushed out of the house and to my car. Opening the door, I climbed into the driver seat and started the car, slowly driving out of the compound, down the road, heading to my house. * I wasted no time in getting home as the road was completed free from traffic. Honking twice,I drove into the compound and pulled under the garage. I hastily alighted from the car and rushed into the sitting room, climbing up the stairs to my mum's room. The door was closed, but not locked so I pushed it open and walked in to meet an empty room. "Mum." I stood at the entrance of the bathroom and called out her name , but there was no response. Where could she be? I turned around and started towards the door when a neatly folded paper on her dressing table caught my attention. I stepped forward and reached for it. Unfolding it, my eyes went huge in disbelief. It was a test result confirming I was never pregnant. "Oh God."my legs gave way beneath me and I stumbled clumsily on the bed and began to cry. Is this for real? I couldn't bring myself to believe the result. I am not pregnant! Why then did my mum lie to me? "Why?" I screamed out in pain. The door opened suddenly and my mum walked in, holding a black plastic bag. "I am sorry, I had to step out to get some provi......."she stopped mid sentence and arched her eyebrow. "Why are you crying?" "This." I held the paper up for her to see. "Oh that." She retorted nonchalantly and walked to the table close the window. "Now you know the truth." "What?" I stared at her in disbelief. "Is that it?" "Is that what?" She dropped the plastic bag on the table and faced me. "Don't tell me you want to make a big deal out of it" "Why did you lie to me?" I yelled at her. "Because that is the only way to get a hold of the company." She yelled back at me. "Like seriously?" I got off the bed and faced her. "At the expense of your daughter happiness. Do you even have a conscience at all?" "Oh! Spare me the bullshit." She rolled her eyes. She was clearly not bothered about my feelings. "I hate you."I spat out , looking daggers at her. "I really hate ......."she slapped me hard across the cheeks and I swallowed down a sob, panicking silently. "Have you completely lost your mind?" She thundered. "How dare you talk back at me!" She landed another slap on my cheek. "I am sorry mum."my bottom lip quivered in fear and big tears rolled down my cheeks. "I will never do it again." "Better." She gave me a cold eyed stare. "Focus! Will you? Troy already has full access to the hospital, you need to convince him to sign it to your unborn child" "But... there ....is ....no ...unborn... child."I struggled out my words in between tears. "That is more reason why you need to keep on trying."her voice was surprisingly calm. "You need to seduce him........."She paused and tilted her head, as if thinking. "Did you make use of the pills?" "No." I answered truthfully "Damn!" She banged her fist on the table. "It is meant to delay your period ..." So i wouldn't find out the truth. My subconsciousness completed "And add to your fertile days."Her remaining words sounded like an echo in my ear. Is she really my mother? I wondered, staring at her with hidden contempt. "Don't let this opportunity pass us by." She continued. "Make Troy fall in love with you." I bit my lips, attempting to keep cool. "He already has a fiancee."My voice was flat and levelled. "Fiancee?" She laughed out mockingly. "Are you talking about the pretty girl he posted on his w******p status?" So she do check his status! "Yes." I nodded slowly. "Interesting." She arched her eyebrow. "What is her name?" "Obianuju." "Obianuju." A slow smile worked its way across her face and into her eyes. "Don't worry, I will take care of it." Take care of it! My heart began to pound hard and fast in my chest. What does she mean by that??? "Nobody dares challenge me." * Ademilade "I am going to the sitting room babe." I called out to Obianuju who was in the toilet ,defecating "Han! Han! But you promised to wait for me."she queried. "Not with this dangerous smell." I teased her. "Shut up." She shrieked. I laughed so hard hearing the anger in her voice. "I hate you Ademilade." "I love you." I sang out the words, and with that, dashed out of the room, down the stairs and into the sitting room, fearing that she might pounce on me any moment. Collapsing on the sofa,I reached for the remote control and switched on the television; then I relaxed and began watching a cartoon-Tom and Jerry to be precise. "Don't tell me you still watch this."Obianuju scoffed behind me. "Have you washed your hands?"I asked, ignoring her jeer. "Yes."She jumped in front of me,obstructing my view in the process. "Move." I told her calmly, but she refused to listen. Instead, she sat in my lap and began twerking to an invisible music. Is she trying to seduce me again? "Do you like it?"She leaned back to whisper in my ear. "Like what?" I feigned ignorance, acting like I wasn't aroused. But who am I kidding? She was killing me softly, her big a*s doing crazy things to my d**k, giving me a huge hard on. D**n! I couldn't hold back any more. I trailed my hand down her back, until they were resting on her a*s; then I reached over and began fondling her left breast. The sudden sound of the creaking door startled me and I looked up just in time to see Emma storm in I never even noticed she wasn't around "Good morning." She greeted. "Morning." Obianuju and I responded almost in unison. "Where are you coming........."I stopped mid sentence when I noticed the gloomy look on her face. "Are you alright?" I asked, watching her with genuine concern. "Yes." She turned away from me and began walking to the stairs, hesitated, then stopped to face me. "Am I a bad person?" Her voice was barely audible. I was a little taken aback by the directness of the question. I wanted to snap at her,but checked myself. "No."Obianuju answered her. She slowly shifted her gaze to her. "Thanks."She muttered softly and ran up the stairs. I stared after her, puzzled by her attitude. What in the world is wrong with her? TBC Good night ?
