Chapter 4- Amelia

2214 Words
I looked at the clock on the wall. Damn, I need to get to work. “I wish I could talk longer, Big Dave. I’m sorry, I have to get moving. It was a pleasure to see you.” I said, looking at the clock on the wall. Damn, I better get to work. I hugged him and turned towards the door. “Have a pleasant day, Amelia. Don’t be a stranger. If you need someone to talk to who will understand your heartache. Please come by and see me. We’ll have coffee and talk. It doesn’t have to be about anything in particular,” he said. I turned around to wave at Big Dave with my hand on the door handle. I didn’t see anyone there until I felt the door pull away from me. I wasn’t aware of what happened until I felt myself slam into a brick wall. I looked down to see a pair of arms holding me up. They lifted me back on my feet. “Wait, walls don’t have arms.” I thought as I looked up, realizing not only had I dropped my breakfast on the ground. I not only spilled my coffee all over myself, but I spilled it on him as well. “I am so, so sorry,” I said, grabbing a napkin from my purse. I brought my hand closer to clean off the shirt for the man, but before I could, he grabbed my wrist to stop me. My eyes traveled up the length of his torso, lingering for a few seconds longer. I could see the outline of his toned abs and rippling pecks in his tight button-up shirt. I took my eyes off his body and snapped them to his eyes. My breath hitched when I made eye contact with his gorgeous grey eyes staring at me. I had to take my eyes off his. I was drawn in by their magnetic pull, telling me to get lost in the depths of secrets and mysteries they held. I couldn’t help staring at his strong jawline and his plump lips. I wondered what it would be like to taste his lips? I shook my head as I freed my wrist from his grasp, stepping away. “I am so sorry. I wasn’t looking where I was walking. Please let me make it up to you and buy you breakfast.” I said as I rushed out in a single breath, trying not to lose my cool. This man had taken my breath away by his mere presence. It should be a sin to look that delicious. I need to get away and fast before my heart beats out of my chest. The man was about to reply when his phone rang. Thank the heavens. I heaved a big sigh. It was now my chance to get away while he was on the phone before I made an even bigger fool out of myself than I already have. Just what I was hoping for him to do. He turns around and walks a few yards away from me. With his back facing me, I use that as an opportunity to escape. I rush back to my car as fast as my legs can carry me. Once I reached my car, I quickly unlocked the door and got inside, starting the engine. I reversed the car out of the parking space without hitting another car, trying to get away. Putting the car in drive, I sped out of the parking lot. I looked up into the rearview mirror to see him turning around, looking for me. When he didn’t see me standing there, he turned around and walked into the cafe. I am so thankful that his phone rang at that very moment. I would have said something stupid. Oh wait, I already made a fool of myself trying to wipe the coffee off his shirt. I have to call Alexandria and have her get me a shirt ready. With that thought, I dialed her number via my car stereo. “Hey Alexandria, can you see if I have an extra blouse in my office and if you could please make me a coffee?" I asked her. "I’ll get right on that,” she replied. “Thank you,” I said, ending the call since I was getting closer to the office. I didn’t feel like parking my car today, so I pulled up to the valet and gave them the keys. I walked into the front doors of my 25-story office building. Sterling Fashion House, in bold lettering on the front of the building. I wish my dad were here. I loved coming with him to the office after school every day. I push the elevator button as soon as I walk inside the building. I need to get out of this shirt. I was waiting for the elevator to arrive. I sent Arielle a text telling her I had gossip she would die to know, but I would only tell her after work. The elevator arrives, opening its doors as soon as I step inside. I pushed the button for the 25th floor. Arielle texts back, saying she couldn’t wait to hear what I had to say. The elevator stopped on the 25th floor, and I got out when the doors opened. Alexandria was there waiting with a clean blouse and my coffee. I took the blouse from her and left her holding the coffee for me. Due to the incident today, I know it wouldn't be bright of me to grab the coffee and shirt out of her hands. I would spill it. Again. I ran into my office bathroom to change out of my coffee-stained blouse and into a clean one. I walked out of the bathroom, heading back over to Alexandria. I grab my coffee from her, taking a sip. I know Alexandria is wondering what happened to my blouse, from the look of confusion on her beautiful face. “I ran into someone walking out of the cafe, spilled my coffee all over us,” I said before she could get what she wanted to ask out of her mouth. She shook her head, smiling, and walked around to her desk to do her work. I walked back into my office and over to my desk. Pulling out my leather chair, I took a seat. It was my dad's office before it became mine. I didn't want to change anything here from the way my dad had it. I grabbed the file that Alexandria must have put on my desk before I got here. I was browsing through a file when I noticed something off with the account numbers on the financial reports. Everything in this file is weird and completely off on the numbers. It wasn't the first time something like this had happened. Who would be so dumb as to do something like that? I thought before my mind drifted back to the handsome man from this morning. What scares me the most is that it started when I took over the business. I couldn’t focus on the file at the moment. The incident from this morning has been replaying in my mind. I couldn’t get those hypnotizing grey eyes out of my mind. Those eyes could have you lost in their depths. I closed my eyes, shaking my head, trying to push his eyes out of my head. I tried to get back to the file, but the thought of what the stranger's body looked like with no clothes on was on repeat. The tight, crisp white shirt he wore was now stained brown with coffee. It did nothing to conceal his biceps and chiseled abs. He was the definition of a Greek God. Any woman would be lucky to have him worship them. Those full lips sat on his beautiful face. God, I’d do anything to have those lips kissed somewhere else. “Amelia, head home and get some rest. You look like you need it,” Alexandria said, walking into my office. I jumped a tad; I was so distracted by the guy. I didn’t even hear her come into my office. “Do I have any meetings today?” I asked, turning to look at her. She must think I was distracted by the anniversary of my father's death today, but that wasn’t the case. The thought of my father's death melted away as I felt safe in these strangers' arms. “No, you have nothing scheduled for today.” She said, walking closer to grab the file on my desk. I snatched it away before she could grab it. I need to look at this file again. The small amount I did look at didn’t seem right to me. Something was completely off with these reports. “I’m planning to take this file home with me. I need to go over it again before I sign it. Can you get the financial reports for the past year for me, please?” I asked her with a small smile. She nodded and walked out of the office to get the files I asked her to retrieve for me. I grabbed my purse when Alexandria walked back into my office thirty minutes later. She handed me the stack of files in her arms, so I put the file inside my purse. I placed my phone and whatever else I needed inside my bag before I stepped out of the office. I walked to the elevator and pushed the button. “Alexandria, whatever you are working on, it can wait until Monday. Let's go home so you can spend time with your husband. Thank you for the files.” I said, turning to look at her as she nodded her head. “Grab your stuff and walk with me out,” I added, turning back around to wait for the elevator. A few minutes later, the elevator dings, and the doors open. I turned to see Alexandria was at my side, stepping into the elevator at the same time I did. I pushed the elevator button for the first floor. I turned to look at Alexandria and smiled, pulling her into a big hug. I had given her a startle, but she soon realized what was happening. She wrapped her arms around me and hugged me as tight as I was her. I needed this hug; it was the hug every little girl wishes she got from her mother. I felt her run a soothing hand through my hair. That action caused me to cry out. “I miss him, I miss him so much,” I said as a sob racked through my body. Alexandria said nothing for a while, kept hugging me, running a hand through my hair. “I know you do, but remember, he is always with you. Right here,” she replied, pointing to my heart. I heard the ding of the elevator, signaling we had arrived on the first floor. Alexandria let go of the hug and draped her arm around my shoulders. Alexandria pulls me closer to her, afraid that if she lets go of me, I could crumble into a million pieces. When the elevator doors open, we step out of the elevator with her arm around my shoulders as she walks me to my car. I took the keys from the valet, walked over to my car, and opened the door. I turned around and gave Alexandria another long hug; she didn’t hesitate to put her arms around me. She whispers in my ear that everything will be all right and to keep my head up. I pulled away from the hug and got into my car. Before pulling onto the road, I dialed Arielle’s phone number, putting it on my car radio. “Hey, girl. I’ll meet you at my place when you get off of work!” I said when the line connected. "Are you okay, Amelia?” She asked me with worry in her voice. “Yeah,” I said. I didn’t want to be on the phone. I guess Arielle figured it out. I heard her say she is leaving work right away and will be here soon with some essential things that we will need. Fifteen minutes after Arielle ended our phone call, I was pulling into the parking garage of my building. I parked the Lamborghini in the designated parking spot, shut the engine off, and got out of the car, locking the doors. I walked over to the elevator, pushing the button. Stepping into the elevator and pushed the button for the penthouse floor. I couldn’t help but think about dad. He used to tell me that when he first found out that my mom was pregnant, he was over the moon. He couldn’t have been any happier. Even though he wanted a son, he ended up with a little girl like me. With a single glance at my face, he said he had fallen in love with the sight of me. I was his beloved princess. He promised to give me the world, and he did just that. He gave me his whole world growing up.
