Friendzone-Chapter 7

727 Words
**Soren's POV** My eyes never left her as she sat reading a book. I want to kill Alaric for what he did to Raisel—my sunshine—leaving her so broken, pushing her to the edge. I couldn't sleep last night; I just watched her like a creep. The image of her, weak and with pills in her hands, flashes in my mind like a nightmare. “You have no work?” Raisel raised an eyebrow, giving me a small smile. “I’m taking the day off,” I muttered. “I hardly see you leave the apartment,” she said in her sweet voice, her messy hair making her look beautiful. I had to avert my gaze before I gave myself away. “You sure you’re not bored of my presence?” “Oh no. I think I know why you’re stuck at home.” I stopped sipping my black coffee, our eyes meeting. I saw the sadness in her blue eyes. “It’s not you,” I assured her. It was only half the truth, but still, there were other reasons. “No need to lie,” she muttered. “Raisel, I have other reasons for staying at home. I need peace while my lawyers handle the paparazzi and other stuff. After that, you and I will go out.” She looked reassured by my words. “I have a favor to ask.” “Say it, Raisin. Don’t be shy.” I smirked, teasing her. She flushed, her hands tucking back her hair, fingers twirling nervously. “What happened yesterday... don’t tell anyone about it, especially Hazel,” Raisel pleaded, her eyes earnest. “On one condition,” I said. “You seek help from a counselor.” She sighed, clearly reluctant, ready to argue. “Fine, it’s a deal.” I raised an eyebrow, knowing how stubborn Raisel can be. She always has her own mind. “I’m agreeing because it’s good for my health. I want to take care of myself and find my way back.” I nodded, relief spreading through me. “You should stop worrying. I told you I’d fight back.” “You keep saying that, Raisel,” I added, realizing I should’ve kept my mouth shut. A sad frown crossed her face, but she still gave me a small smile. “I know. I’m trying to fight. I wish I could snap my fingers and be over it.” She went quiet, her eyes filling with tears, though none fell. “I didn’t—” I began, but she cut me off. “Soren, I’m thankful for letting me stay here. I won’t stay for free; you need to take rent from me, please don’t say no.” I sighed and nodded; I couldn’t refuse her. She always has this effect on me. Old habits die hard. “Thank you.” Raisel walked up and hugged me. These warm hugs are becoming my addiction. I didn’t wrap my arms around her like I did yesterday. I don’t know why, but something held me back. Raisel looked up at me with a smile that made my heart ache. I know that look—I’m being friend-zoned. She’ll never see me as the man who can give her everything. But no, I’m not giving up on her. I’ll make sure she sees me, the man she needs. I’ll do anything for her. “You’re a good friend, Soren. I’m grateful.” She smiled, putting me in a sour mood. I didn’t show it; I smiled back and nodded. Lora brought lunch, and I headed to my office, knowing Lora would keep an eye on Raisel for me. I opened my laptop, the screensaver of Raisel and her folder staring back at me. I don’t know how Raisel will react when she finds out about my secrets, the deals. She doesn’t need to know, not yet. I just want to keep her safe. Then a text from Davina lit up my phone: “Our deal is done. Don’t do anything to Alaric, or you know what I’m capable of.” A smirk played on my lips. She doesn’t know I’m not that scared college kid anymore—I’m the nightmare she didn’t see coming. Soon, my plan will unfold. I won’t let her get away with hurting my Raisel.
