As she hoisted herself out of her seat to cross the platform to wait for the Evanston train, she wondered why life found it necessary to throw these complications her way. Wasn’t it enough to simply want to transform? To become her authentic self? Why these stirrings of desire and guilt? Her mind shut off as she stood on the platform, waiting for the familiar purple signs of her train to alert her to the fact she was almost home. Once she at last stepped out of the station at Main Street, she began her walk home. Here in Evanston, the air seemed a bit cooler.
