A Cave of Whispering Secrets Compared to the sodden heat and humidity of Atlanta long before summer settled in, a springtime rainstorm in the Appalachian Mountains was pure paradise. Deb Powers was glad pretty much every day that she’d made the big move out of the big city. But sitting on the comfy blue sofa in her basement home office, bundled up in one of the countless afghans her Auntie Zelda made years ago, and watching the rain turned this into her new favorite day in a hurry. She could still see the ring of mountains that surrounded Estonoa through the steady downpour, and the muted green of the thick trees drinking in all that rain. The mostly red brick buildings of the hilly town below her were visible too, with hardly any people or cars out on this lovely Saturday afternoon. T
