CHAPTER 4: BULLETS AND BRUNETTES

1881 Words
"Steph, how are all of the preparations for the party next week? Did you secure all of the names of the mafia families that would be attending? A margin of error is no longer acceptable in this situation." I was calmly signing all of the needed documents for the party next week while Stephanie was in charge of making sure all of the mafia family bosses attended. A simple and a bit clumsy assistant like Alex could never handle this kind of responsibility. Thus, I only assigned the regular business to him and made sure that Steph was the one who controlled all the mafia-related companies aside from me. "Michael, you need to relax for a little bit. You are driving everyone mad because of your constant worrying about this party, and that is not going to help." The room fell silent as Francisca and Pedro, the planners, looked at each other nervously. The capo is a high-ranked mafia member, but the capo will never be above the boss. "Bos, listen, I know that this party is important, but we need you to be calm and collected when this happens. Francisca and Pedro have been our planners for more than five years, and I know that they can handle it." The two-party planners looked tense as my eyes scanned them. I released a sigh as I nodded and sent them away to do their duties for the family. "Thank you for the reminder Steph. You remind me of why you were the expected heir to the Dela Mayor family. You really are a leader when you need to be. It's a good thing that you are now my capo, and I can trust you enough to get my head out of the clouds when I need you." "Well, I see you as both my friend, my boss, and my brother, who is a year younger than me. You're lucky I don't call you little brother when I'm pissed at you, Michael. I'm here to make sure that we put that Mondragon down." The sudden harshness and determination in Stephanie's voice caught me off guard. I had never seen her so determined about something before other than when she assassinated people in the past. "I know you have personal grudges towards the Mondragon's boss, but I've never seen you this fired up about beating them. What is the other reason why you dislike the Mondragon family?" "For now, I can't tell you about it since I don't have the full information. However, I can promise you that you will be the first person to know when I have the full information." I smiled at her honesty to me and her boldness to declare a personal war against the most dangerous rival. The only thing that the Mondragon family has as an advantage is that they have actual family members. The De Angelo family is not yet full-on since I am the only De Angelo alive. All the people with me right now are the ones I made a pact within my youth. Most of them were my colleagues back when I was living from one orphanage to another. The others were people whom I saved while I was executing assassination missions with Stephanie. The people who make up my family have brought their own family into the mix, adding to our numbers. The De Angelo family began when I was still an assassin for the Dela Mayor family at eighteen. I took pride in what we have built for ten years, and with the help of all families connected to us, we grew faster in both the business and mafia worlds. "Thanks for being honest with me, Stephanie. Now, all I need is for you to get me a way to have an honest conversation with other bosses that would be my partners." "I'll do that if you keep yourself away from bullets and other weapons aimed to kill you. That includes women who are trained to kill the De Angelo Family's boss." I laughed at her advice and nodded as she left me alone inside my office with a contented smile across my face. The party for the mafia families is almost at hand. I knew that the moment I formed an alliance with the most powerful mafia families in the world, the De Angelo empire youth would finally remain at the top. I looked at the photo of my brother Gabriel's tomb, and for the first time, I allowed myself to shed one tear. A tear that promises justice for my fallen Grande Fratello. My phone rang, and I heard Alex clear his throat before proceeding to speak. That man was brilliant, but if he wasn't so valuable the majority of the time, I would have shot him every time he stuttered. "Umh, hello, boss, I would like to inform you that I have already received the list of names for your possible secretary. I will send all their files to you now, and I would like to ask you when you would call them for your interview with them." "Send the files first, and I will tell you straight ahead if there are women that would reach the interview phase. Thank you for the update, Alex." "Noted, sir. I would also like to inform you that we have already received confirmation from our team in Asia. We now have the go signal to begin the expansion of the business there, specifically in Singapore. All we need now is for you to have a meeting with the main partners in Singapore for the project to begin completely." "Thank you, Alex. Schedule the meeting for the Singapore team tomorrow, and have all the information about the project printed by tomorrow. Make sure you include the contract as well as the signed contract of every investor we have here in Italy." "Yes, sir. I'll get everything ready by tomorrow and send everything to your email for additional copies and to your office for the original documents. I also called your driver, and your car is ready for you to use. Are you sure that you won't let Mr. Jackson drive you home today, sir?" "No need, Alex. Let Jackson go home early. I have Fred and George with me as my appointed bodyguards today. You can also go home, Alex. You did a good job today, so you deserve to go home early." I went straight to the parking lot and gave my thanks to Jackson for giving me the keys to my white Lamborghini Huracan. I don't like cars in particular, but my brother Gabriel mentioned cars and guns when we were kids, and I remembered him telling me that cars are great investments. I drove all around Milan to relax and unwind. I watched the buildings and scenery pass by my open window. The main building of Alpha and Omega Group of Companies is erected in the heart of Milan, and as I passed several buildings, I began to recall my brother's words. "Michael, remember these words. La sconfitta inizia de la ve paura. Defeat begins with one's fear. Build your faith in something greater than yourself. Find something to put your faith in, and you will see that you can win even if you experience defeat. Fear will always be there, but your faith can drive out your fear." I remember my brother's words whenever bullies threatened to harm me in school or in the streets. I took that quote to heart the moment my brother died before my eyes. I lost control of my car when a bullet was shot and hit one of my tires. I had difficulty controlling the vehicle, but I was lucky enough to swerve to the left and stop the car. I looked at my rearview mirror and saw that Fred's car was parked diagonally to block any bullets aimed at me. "Where is George, Fred? How are you and how is George? Who the heck is stupid enough to shoot me in broad daylight?!" I took my gun and prepared to shoot as Fred and I crouched low with our weapons ready. Nearby, I saw multiple cars pulled up surrounding my car to block wherever the gun fires came from. Suddenly, a bullet was shot in my direction, and it was close enough to scratch my cheek. "Boss! Stay low, boss, George and the rest will handle everything. Right now, we got to get you to safety. These bastards are being chased by Stephanie's men, and according to them, there are five shooters designated in multiple buildings. Stay inside the bulletproof car, and I will make sure you are not harmed." "Leave me and get your brother George right now, Fred. I will be fine here, so don't worry about me. Make sure those idiots aiming a gun at my old pay for their own suicidal stupidity." "Boss, Michael, hey, are you alright there? The five snipers are caught, but the three of them are already dead from the shootout." Stephanie called me and gave me the news as soon as I answered. I was proud of my capo, and I am sure that the two lone survivors of this shootout will experience hell from our interrogation team. "Stephanie, are there casualties from our side? Ensure that everyone is alright and that those idiots who survived are taken care of by the interrogation team. Make sure they realize their mistakes and make sure their boss is identified." "I am already on it, boss. By the way, Fred told me that you got scratched, so make sure you get home early and wash up before you go on that date with the possessed brunette Barbie lady." "Stephanie, the woman, has a name, but you are partially right. She looks like a model, but she acts like a possessed doll back at the club, so I guess that's a nice nickname. Make sure that everything here is swept clean, and none of this should get leaked to the media. If there are media people or posts on social media, take it down fast. We don't want our covers to be blown and put the company at risk." After switching cars with one of my men, I went straight home, and I fixed myself up before going to the restaurant that I booked. I was supposed to meet a woman named Annabella who I met at the bar a few days ago. After the continuous death threats and constant shootings from other mafia families, I was on edge about who was plotting against my empire. I needed a night to unwind and a woman to keep me company. I knew that Stephanie sent me bodyguards to make sure I got home safe, and I didn't mind it. I opened the door of my car, but I stopped dead in my tracks when a red dot appeared on my head, and a small body tackled me to the ground. The shot scratched the bulletproof glass of my Ferrari, and I looked up. I saw that the body who tackled me down was Annabella, the brunette beauty that was now on top of me as we lay on the floor in the front of the club.
