My Journal – July 15, 2004As the sun rose higher and the air warmed up, we decided to go inside to let our skin rest and our eyes adjust to softer light. Leaving our blankets on the stony beach, Gaia and I stood and turned toward the café that was shaded by the green and white striped awning that loomed above it. Gaia stumbled a bit on the rocks and reached out for my hand. I held it gently and smiled. It elicited a short giggle from her as she steadied her feet. We reached the café and immediately felt the cooler air on our sun-warmed skin. Settling into welcoming chairs by the perimeter, we enjoyed the shade and cool air of the fan above our heads while still keeping an eye on the sea and the beachgoers crowding the shoreline.
