Chapter 02
Eliza’s POV:
“Miss Conner?” someone called from the front of the waiting room.
“It’s your turn.” It was the doctor Alpha Jason had made an appointment for me with.
“Hi, Doctor, my name is Eliza Conner. I’m the Beta’s daughter of The Full Moon pack.”
The doctor shook my hand and motioned for me to go inside with his other hand.
“Welcome. Come in and take a seat. My name is Doctor Wolff.” The doctor said as he gestured for me to take a seat.
I walked to the chair in front of the desk while the doctor took his seat behind his desk.
“What can I do for you?” the doctor asked.
“Anna and I were supposed to party last night, and I passed out before the night started. I can’t remember anything about it.” I felt uncomfortable about it.
“Okay, do you have that often?” Doctor Wolff asked.
“Not that I’m aware of. I don’t have any problems. Anna said I had been vomiting, but I didn’t feel sick when I woke up this morning. I just ate and didn’t throw up anymore.” I felt like I was wasting my time.
“If I understood correctly from the Alpha, did you and his sister fly back yesterday?”
“Yes, that’s right. We landed in the morning. By midday, we arrived in pack territory. We had something to eat on the way and on arrival at the pack house, we took our bags upstairs. I helped Anna clean up her stuff. We changed clothes and went downstairs. Someone ordered pizza, but I still didn’t know how my story could explain why I passed out.”
“If it’s all right with you, I’d like to draw some blood. Maybe it’s nothing, and the day was just too much, but I want to rule out some things just to be sure.”
“Yes, that’s fine. Do I have to wait for the results, or can you pass that on?” I just wanted to leave and enjoy the beautiful pool that Anna had shown me during the tour. “Anna and I had planned an afternoon by the pool, so we’re not going to do anything intensive,” I added.
“We can do blood tests now, and I’ll make sure the results get to the Alpha’s sister so she can pass it on to you.” The doctor said as he got up to take some things from a drawer to draw blood.
“If you want to make a fist, I can find a good vein.” The doctor asked me to make a fist, and I complied. Within five minutes, he collected enough tubes to continue his examinations.
“Thank you, doctor. I’m waiting for the results. Bye.” I walked out the door.
On my way to the pack house, I passed a cemetery. I remembered that my mother’s family came out of The Red Moon Pack, and they would bury my grandparents there somewhere. I hesitated for a moment. Would it be weird having a stranger in the cemetery? I walked by it anyway. If only to clean the grave a bit. My mother was an only pup, and I was sure that showing her a picture would make her happy.
At the entrance to the cemetery, I saw a map, but I needed to find out where they would be. That is why I padded along all the corridors until I arrived at the grave of my grandparents.
After half an hour of searching, I finally found the grave.
R.I.P.
Ed & Mollie Thompson
‘Until love does us part’
Stood on the grave. It was simple, but beautiful. The grave, to my surprise, didn’t look dirty at all. Someone cleaned it, or at least they had cleaned it earlier today. I thought it was a nice thought that my grandparents’ grave was being cared for. Maybe Anna knew who did this; then I could thank that person.
I was about to walk back to the pack house when a woman was approaching. She was old and looked like she had been busy on the grave.
“Good morning,” I nodded politely and when I wanted to walk away, when she spoke up, “Are you related to Ed and Mollie?”
It surprised me. Who could this woman be? She knew my grandparents, to call them by their first names. Had she seen me standing by the grave?
“Yes, that’s right. I’m their granddaughter.” Although surprised, I answered her question. It wasn’t a secret.
“Now I see you are Abby’s daughter! How wonderful to meet you here. How is your mother?” So, the woman was an acquaintance of my grandparents and knew my mother too.
It wasn’t quite what I had planned, but maybe it was nice to hear some stories from the past. She must have had many. My mother always told me that my grandparents were very popular with the people from The Red Moon pack. Perhaps it had something to do with my grandfather and grandmother being in charge of the kitchen. After all, love goes through the stomach.
It put a smile on my face. “My parents are fine. I don’t know what you know about my mother, but she is married to the Beta of the pack. So, she is the female Beta. Besides the work that comes out of that, she is always happy to help in the pack house kitchen. She is the kitchen’s head omega, and my mother passed on many of Grandma’s recipes that way. My brother Alex will soon take over the Beta feature once Alpha Hector and Luna Nessa can hand it over to their son, Jake. Sorry to ask, but who are you?”
The woman smiled, probably at the entire story. “Sorry, I didn’t say who I was at all. My name is Ellis Torres. I’m the grandmother of both Alpha Jason and Anna. Your grandmother and I were best friends with each other. I remember your father well. The last time I saw your parents was about eighteen years ago. Your mother then came to tell her parents she was pregnant again.”
The woman’s face changed from happy to a slight sadness. It probably took her back to a memory of her friend and the good times of years ago.
“I still have some pictures. If you like, you can come by sometime. Then I can show you. Maybe you even want to take them with you.” The woman gave me a warm feeling, and I immediately understood that she had been a good friend of my grandmother.
“I would like that. I arrived yesterday with Anna, and the Alpha has given us permission to spend another week here together.”
“That’s agreed then. Enjoy your week’s holiday, and I’ll see you sometime. Will you bring my granddaughter too? It’s been way too long since I’ve seen that clever face!”
I had to laugh. It made me aware that I was missing this—a grandmother who loved you unconditionally and was always proud of you. Suddenly, I felt a person behind me. Before I could turn around, a voice said, “Good morning, Grannie. How are you? I see you met Anna’s friend. I saw as I passed the grave that you had been busy again. The flowers are beautiful again, Grandma.”
Flowers! I should have brought them, of course. It was as if they could read it on my face. Mrs. Torres smiled from her grandson to me.
“Don’t worry, girl, I just finished cleaning up. I also brought flowers to your grandparents’ grave. They are lilies. They were your grandmother’s favorite flowers.”
I breathed a sigh of relief going, “Thank you, Mrs. Torres. It’s nice to know that someone cares about them so much. Lilies are my favorite flowers too. It’s nice to have a match with my grandma.”
The smile this woman had brought to my face never faded. Returning home after years away from school, I brought a piece of family history into my heart.
“I’m leaving now. To relax with Anna in the pool this afternoon, I promised her I would purchase a bikini. I’ll come by soon for the photos.”
I turned my body halfway towards the Alpha to show respect. “Alpha, Mrs. Torres, have a nice day.” with that, I walked towards the exit.
“I have to go too, Grandma.” I could still hear the Alpha say, and in no time, he was walking next to me.
“How are you feeling? We didn’t get to know each other yesterday. I’m Alpha Jason Turner, but you can call me Jason. If you’ve won my sister and grandma’s heart, then who am I?”
I looked at the Alpha. WOW, he was so handsome! I didn’t look in time in front of me and tripped. As I stumbled and fell, Jason’s quick reflexes allowed him to catch me with his muscular arms before I hit the ground.
Oh god, what was I going to do with myself? I slowly drowned in Jason’s light blue eyes. With my eyes, I took his face to me. I placed my hands on his muscular upper arms. They felt so good. From his eyes, I lowered my eyes to his mouth. Those lips... I would do anything to get a kiss from those lips. The lips formed into a grin. Fantastic, I thought to myself. I just made a fool of myself by tripping, only to melt away in his arms.
“I got you,” was all he said.
My eyes went back to his eyes. What was this? Despite being taught about fate and the Moon Goddess, I wanted to believe I had found love at first sight. As you always hear in the fairy tales that are told when going to bed.
“Thank you. I’m not usually that clumsy. My name is Eliza, Eliza Conner, daughter of Beta Brad from The Full Moon pack.” I stood there with his arms still around my waist and my hands on his biceps.
“Hello Eliza, welcome to my pack. The pleasure was all mine. It’s rarely such a beautiful girl, like you, throws herself at my feet.”
Wait, what did he say?
“Thank you?” His words could have been a compliment or a joke, and I wasn’t sure which. He is so irresistible that any she-wolf would throw herself at his feet. I ran my hands down his upper arms to his lower arms.
“Sorry Alpha, I don’t mean to be rude, but I would like to go shopping with Anna. Thanks again.” I released his arms a little awkwardly and tried to walk away. His arms were now only holding my hands.
“You don’t have to say Alpha, Jason is just fine.” and with that, he walked away. I was stunned when he walked away after saying those words. Unsure of what to do with this, I let it slide for now and go look for Anna. I saw Jason walking to the edge of the woods. Just as he was undressing for a shift, Anna came out of the pack house.
“Hey there you are! Are you ready to leave?” I heard Anna, but my mind was no longer on shopping.
“Earth to Liz, what are you looking at?” I couldn’t let Anna know that I’d just seen her brother undress.
“Oh, I’m just enjoying the view. Come on, let’s go.” I hooked my arm into hers and took her back into the pack house.
