Chapter 01
Eliza´s POV:
I woke up with a pounding headache. Where was I? I turned myself in bed and the blanket lay open as if someone had just gotten out of bed. Hesitantly, I let my hand slide to the seat next to me. It was not hot, but certainly not cold, as you would expect if I had slept alone. My thoughts seemed to go into slow motion. It was as if my mind was working in delay in what my eyes saw.
After a few seconds, I knew I was not wearing any clothes. My arm, which lay in the empty spot, was naked. I immediately pulled up the covers to see how naked I was. A sign of relief came over me when I saw I wore a top and shorts. I didn’t recognize the top, but at least I was wearing something!
I lay in bed a little longer, trying to figure out my situation. How did I end up here? What was the last thing I could remember from yesterday?
A party, a big party. I was wearing skinny jeans with a white blouse. I turned to look at the bedside. Where were my own clothes? When I didn’t see anything, I jumped up a little. My elbows were under my arms so I could lean on them. A chair at the end of the footboard to the right held my neatly folded clothes.
I let myself fall back on my back. What else could I remember from yesterday? Anna! Where would she be? I have a vague memory of the two men she introduced me to. I couldn’t remember their names. My memory tells me they looked good. But that wasn’t baffling, either. Every self-respected wolf takes care of his appearance. We trained a lot anyway, and that is, of course, half of the good life we all try to live.
Focus, Eliza, handsome men don’t matter now. Where you are and how you get back to Anna, do, I said to myself. The more I thought about it, the less I could remember. I looked for a shower. Just wash everything off me. Maybe after a lovely refreshing shower, I could shed new light on the whole situation.
After a wonderfully refreshing shower, I felt a lot better. I put on the clothes from the night before. I didn’t have much choice. My bags were in Anna’s room, but this was definitely not Anna’s room. After cleaning the bathroom and bedroom, I looked for something to eat. Breakfast and a cup of coffee, that’s what I need!
I stepped out the door. “Where am I?” I asked myself aloud. I ended up at the end of a hall. All the doors were closed. I walked slowly and carefully down the hall. Halfway through, I suddenly saw a new hall, which led to a staircase. I could only go down. Which meant I was on the top floor of this building. After a flight of stairs, I was on the next floor. I walked a little further so I could look down the hall. But this one looked exactly like the hall from above. I moved down to another floor. Until I heard voices on the third floor, I was searching for an exit for an unknown duration. There was nothing down the hall except for a door that had just closed. That was of no use to me either.
I went down another flight of stairs before knocking on a random door. Once I arrived on the ground floor, I entered a large hall. The hall of a pack house. I recognized it right away as the pack house where Anna lived.
Luckily, I wasn’t as far as having trouble as I thought I would be. It made me realize I had been sleeping on the top floor of the pack house. Every wolf knew that. That was the floor of the Alpha and his family. Oops!
If only I hadn’t gotten Anna into trouble for my stupid actions. I walked down the hall, looking for someone. It didn’t matter who. I drew my attention to the voices I heard in the room to my right. I walked into that room. It turned out to be an enormous hall where several people were eating. I couldn’t believe my eyes, and I didn’t even look further into the room.
“Hey girl, there you are,” said a voice to my right. I looked to my right and saw Anna sitting on a kitchen island. She took a sip from her mug and held the mug up to me. “Would you like a cup of coffee? You look like you could use it!”
“Oh Anna, thank God, there you are. Yes, please and uh, thanks? Anna, what happened? I don’t remember anything!” I couldn’t hold back the feeling any longer and needed to know what had happened last night. How had I gotten into that room?
“Good morning to you, too. We had a party, don’t you remember?” she replied.
I walked towards the island and took a seat next to Anna.
“Anna, be honest with me. Did I do something stupid?”
“Something stupid? Why do you ask? I would never let you down, anyway.” Anna regarded me. “Here, enjoy your coffee. Would you like something to eat too? Auntie Su saved the leftover breakfast so I could warm up some for you.”
I took a sip of my coffee and put the mug away. “A sandwich would be nice, but if you tell me where everything is, I can prepare it myself,”
“Of course, not silly! You’re my guest. Let me take care of you.”
Before I could object, Anna turned and started getting things out.
“So, you don’t remember anything from last night?” she asked as she heated the oven and cut open a bun.
“Uh, no, the last thing I can remember is that you introduced me to two men. The rest is a black hole.”
Anna didn’t respond, so I continued, “Do you know who sleeps on the top floor?”
Anna turned with wide eyes. “Who lives on the top floor? You can answer that question yourself, Liz. You know the top floor of the pack house is the floor of the Alpha and his family. Our pack is no different. Why do you ask that?”
I let out a deep sigh and took a long sip of my coffee. “I woke up on the top floor, Anna. The place next to me in bed still felt a little warm. Which means someone has been lying next to me. I don’t remember anything!” The panic must have been in my voice as Anna turned completely now and had a reassuring smile on her face.
“Calm down, Liz, you’re safe here. You slept in the guest room. I changed you there into a top of mine after you threw up on your own clothes.”
I took a deep breath and sipped my coffee. “Why did I have to throw up? Did I drink too much?”
“No, silly. You haven’t had a drop of alcohol. Jason and Ben were having fun when you indicated you didn’t feel well. Jason carried you upstairs for me, after which I undressed you, freshened up and changed.”
I sighed. “Okay, so I only made a fool of myself with Jason and Ben. That’s not too bad.” I said, and before I even finished talking, I realized that Jason and Ben weren’t just people from the pack.
“Oh, no! Do you mean your brother Alpha Jason and his Beta Ben? f**k! I made a fool of myself in front of the ALPHA!” I said, whining.
Anna couldn’t stop laughing. “Oh, Liz, my brother was worried about you. You didn’t make a fool of yourself! Maybe if you had alcohol, but not now. If all goes well, you will have an appointment with the pack doctor. I’ll have to ask Jason later. He’s currently in a meeting.” That said, Anna placed a plate in front of me with a delicious breakfast. The smell of fresh bread made my stomach growl.
“Thank you, Ann!” I said before I started eating.
“Maybe I can give you a tour in a minute, and we can go shopping or swimming this afternoon?” Anna asked as she sat down across from me.
I nodded; I had already given half that tour to myself by wandering in the corridors looking for an exit.
“Maybe we can shop for a bikini to relax by the pool this afternoon?” I suggested. Anna nodded in agreement.
“So, this is the kitchen and dining room. If you go out through this door, you’ll enter the courtyard and you can go straight to the pool,” said Anna, waving her hand in all directions.
“The house is a three-story building. We reserve the third floor for the Alpha and his family. Guests and meetings occur on the first floor, while they designated the second floor for the Beta and Gamma families. At the end of the corridor is a recreation room, where you can find absolutely everything: books, musical instruments, a pool table and a lounge area with a small bar,”
Anna just kept chatting until a mind link interrupted her. “That was the Beta Ben,” Anna said as soon as she finished. “You’re expected at the hospital in ten minutes. Come, I’ll take you to the doctor, and then we can go shopping afterwards!” she said enthusiastically.
