Chapter 07
Jason´s POV:
That moment when Eliza rested her head against my chest, it felt so good! How I wish Jess would do this one day!
Thank Goddess, Eliza no longer smelled like that dirty rogue, but more like freshly baked bread. A scent that made my mouth water. Her eyes were a shade of brown, so beautiful they almost looked gold. She made me feel like coming home. It was refreshing that a female, as beautiful as her, was oblivious to her beauty and being herself. Most she-wolfs would push themselves and do anything to get an Alpha’s attention, but Eliza never had a problem with it.
When I walked up to her parent’s house with her in my arms, her mother was quick to open the door.
“Welcome! Is there something wrong with my daughter that she is not walking by herself?”
I shook my head, “No, ma’am. Your daughter didn’t sleep well last night and fell asleep on the way here, so I carried her in.” I explained.
She nodded and took a step back so I could walk inside. “In that case, put her in bed. She looks quite comfortable with you.”
“All right, if you could show me the way, I’ll make sure she gets there. I’ll also get her suitcases out of the car in a moment.” I walked towards the stairs, while Mrs. Conner stood doubtfully at the door.
“Forgive me, but your aura, it’s so strong and yet recognizable. Who are you?”
I laughed, “I’m alpha Jason from The Red Moon Pack. Your daughter has been studying with my little sister and has slept with us for the past two days.”
Mrs. Conner opened her mouth and closed it again, without a sound coming out.
“Alpha Jason, I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to be disrespectful. My name is Abby Conner, and my husband is Beta Brad, but you probably already knew that.”
I nodded. “That’s right, you can call me Jason. That formal stuff isn’t really my thing.” I lifted Eliza slightly. “Can you tell me where I should put this sleeping beauty?”
Abby smiled, “Yeah sure, up the stairs and then it’s the room on the left.”
“Thank you.” With Eliza still in my arms, I walked upstairs.
She slept soundly and didn’t notice anything. It must be wonderful to sleep so carefree!
Once I got to Eliza’s room, I went straight to her bed. Carefully, I put her down. She quickly settled into her bed and I put the covers over her. I gently pulled a strand of hair from her face and walked away. I tiptoed downstairs and Abby was sitting on the couch with a cup of coffee in her hands.
“Would you like a cup too?” she said, holding up her mug.
“Yes please, I’ve got time for one cup. However, I will first get Eliza’s suitcases out of the car and put them with her. I’ll be right there.”
With those words, I walked out the door, towards the car. After I got her bags out of the car, I walked back inside and straight upstairs. Back in Eliza’s room, the smell of freshly baked bread hit me all over again. I placed the suitcases at the foot of the bed.
I wasn’t sure if I should stay with her a little longer when my wolf spoke. “Come on creep, it’s still a pup. When she wakes up, you scare her, just like Jess!”
“Eliza knows about our existence and will never have the same fears that Jess has for us.” I argued with him.
My wolf growled lightly, “If you don’t want to scare her, maybe you shouldn’t growl!”
“She lay next to me all night last night, and she didn’t wake up once. I don’t know why I couldn’t give her a little kiss. When she wakes up, I’ll come up with something.” I said defensively.
“See for yourself. Though, know that if you scare her off too, I won’t talk to you anymore,” Luke said, a little irritated.
“Why is it my fault that Jess is afraid of us? She’s afraid of US, most of all of Mario, a wolf, so I’m not worried, you must be afraid!”
Luke said nothing more, and I carefully walked over to Eliza.
I was about to kiss her on the cheek when she turned around and I almost kissed her on the lips. I froze, afraid she would open her eyes, but she kept sleeping soundly. As gently as I could, I kissed her forehead and then walked back to the door. There, I let out a tremendous sigh, relieved that nothing had woken her up.
“I told you!” I said to Luke, but the only response I got was a huff.
“You’re really stubborn! You’re only getting away with it because she didn’t open her eyes when you almost kissed her on the mouth!” he argued back.
“Okay, you’re right, but she didn’t wake up!” I said triumphantly.
Once downstairs, Abby was still on the couch with her cup of coffee in her hands. A cup was waiting for me on the table in front of her.
“She is sleeping soundly. Hopefully, she can get some much-needed rest,” I said as I walked towards the couch.
“Thank you for looking after my daughter, Alpha Jason!” Abby kept looking at me as if she wanted to say something else, though she stopped herself.
We both enjoyed our coffee in silence. Then suddenly, it occurred to me that Eliza was at the grave of Mollie and Ed Thompson. They were the head of the kitchen when my father was alpha.
“Eliza met my grandmother, Ellis Torres. Together, they reminisced about Ed and Mollie. I understood from my grandmother that they were your parents?” I asked, hoping I could start a little conversation.
Abby looked at me, somewhat surprised, “That’s right! How is your grandmother? Gosh, it’s been a long time since I’ve thought of her.”
I could see from Abby’s face that her mind was drifting to memories of the past.
“You were about three years old when I met Brad and left The Red Moon pack. My parents were hesitant about Brad because he had a chosen mate when he met me. That’s the reason we didn’t come back to your pack often.” She said as if it didn’t matter to her, but I still noticed the sadness in her voice.
“That couldn’t have been easy for you. A mate that doesn’t immediately give in to the mate bond and parents who didn’t welcome their son-in-law in open arms because of that.”
Abby nodded in agreement. “That sounds more like experience than compassion, Alpha Jason. Is your Luna still out of place?”
I shook my head, “Unfortunately. Although, if I’m being honest, I would say that I no longer have that expectation. I would rather wait until she has found someone who can make her happy, then I can let her go with peace of mind.”
We drank the rest of our coffee in silence, both in our own thoughts. I finished my coffee and remembered that I still had to go to Alpha Hector.
“Thanks for the coffee, Abby, but I have yet to stop by Alpha Hector,”
“Thank you for bringing my daughter home, Alpha Jason.” with those words she let me out and I walked back to my car.
I drove on to the pack house where I had arranged to meet Alpha Hector. When I arrived there, I walked towards Luna Nessa.
“Luna,” I greeted her, “I’m here for alpha Hector. Is he in his office?”
Luna Nessa greeted me back, “Alpha Jason! Yes, he’s in his office with Jake. I’ve got the documents that you forwarded me. I was just on my way to the pack doctor.”
“O yeah, my pack doctor will help with the research. Of course, if that’s what your doctor wants too.”
“I will let her know. Then they can keep in touch with each other without this going through us. In all honesty, this is not my thing.”
“That’s fine. The contact details of our doctor are on the documents.”
“All right. Hector and Jake are in the conference room on the left side of the first floor.”
“Thank you. I’ll go to them now. Goodbye Luna Nessa.” I said as I headed for the stairs, looking for Alpha Hector’s office.
