My head felt like it was being used as the instrument of an overzealous drummer, pounding and pounding heavily in a seemingly endless rhythm I couldn’t escape from. The beat pulsated in waves of pain that resonated inside me until I had to force my eyes open, hoping that the beat will lose its tempo once darkness is gone. There was a sheen of haze as light entered my sight before I blinked a couple of times and saw a stretch of road that seemed to go on forever in front of me. The air had the taste of the wild, not because of the trees situated on the road side, but because of something else. Animalistic, I thought.
