Ryan’s POV
Just yesterday, the lady standing in front of me was someone who I feared might have captured my heart…
But now, I couldn’t even stand the sight of this same person as I slid the ring down her finger.
Then the officiating minister pronounced us husband and wife as we signed the necessary documents.
Only yesterday I couldn’t wait to see her smile… and then when I did, as I knelt and asked her to marry me, it felt as though something tugged at my heart.
She had looked so beautiful in that red dress that I kept holding back myself from complementing her.
Now, looking at her smiling and seeing how happy her family looked as they hugged and wished her well made the blood under my skin boil in anger.
That cunning snake….
All this while she acted all sweet and innocent but in the end, I never knew she had a plan of her own..
A greater plan where she had more to gain….
“Now you are a complete man. Congratulations, my boy. Remember, you have to keep up with that façade. No one must know that this marriage is only on papers,” grandpa says as he pats my back and leaves the room.
Yesterday, I had found out that she and my grandpa were in alliance and I lashed out in anger.
According to him, he was the girl that he had selected for me to get married to though on a contract basis. After 2 years, and once she has given birth to an heir then we could divorce. Also, of course he was going to pay her a huge sum of money afterwards..
This was grandpa’s plan for me which he had threatened me with a week ago but I was defiant and I had told him that I already had someone in mind whom I wanted to get married to.
I said that because he already knew that I had no plans on getting married but I hoped that it could help me stall him off.
This was the main reason why I and Josh came up with an idea to make him lay off my case at least for a while.
Getting a fiancée and then come up with another plan later, as to why it can’t lead to marriage.
He didn’t like Jessica for some reasons and so I couldn’t use her because he would object to it vehemently.
We had a list of ladies lined up for this and Josh insisted that an actress would fit the role just perfectly, both in the skill aspect and the fact that a beautiful A-list actress in particular would fit my image just perfectly and make it believable.
We were just heading to a location to meet up with one of them when Josh showed me this café and says this was where he gets the best coffee in town.
I was craving one at that moment and that was the reason I decided to explore and go into the café instead of waiting in the car.
Little did I know that I was going to be charmed by this cunning woman…..
That was something that rarely happened, so imagine how intrigued I was when I found myself questioning my decision at each point regarding why I was moved by her.
Grandpa had talked me down yesterday and told me how funny I was to believe that he wasn’t always one step ahead of me and how he knew that this was all planned.
However, according to him, I had already made things easier for him by publicizing the surprise proposal all over the internet.
This was something I felt would help solidify my grounds with him when I told him that I was now engaged to someone..
But now everything was a flop..
Yesterday, she tried to speak with me as she said she wanted to clarify what was happening but I was not ready to be lied to anymore in the face.
She knew my grandpa and she knew about the contract marriage, so what other excuse could she have?
“Get your hands off me!!” I spat at her as I left the room that night.
Grandpa didn’t waste any further time as he planned for this private court marriage immediately and I had no choice this time but to accept defeat.
He clearly stated: Get married or risk losing your place as the future president and chairman of Da Silva Empire.
Of course, I had no plans of letting that happen but I more than anyone, knew how strict my grandpa was.
My phone rings and I see that it’s Jessica.
I have been ignoring her calls all this while but she just kept on calling. I am sure it was because she had seen the news already.
I was tired of staying here. I had to leave now..
“Mrs Taylor, I am so sorry but I think it’s time for me to take my wife home now. She needs to rest,” I say calmly despite my disdain for the people I was surrounded with now.
She and her family…
I almost chocked saying “my wife”.
Earlier this morning we had a quick meeting with her family and grandpa after they also saw the trending news were I proposed to her and now grandpa told them that we were getting married later this afternoon.
Anna explained to her family, that we had kept our relationship secret up until because my public status but now, we just wanted to get married so quickly.
They looked shocked at hearing everything but they later calmed down.
All the while, I scoffed in my mind as she said this to them because I was almost so certain that her family was also in, on this scheme of getting married to me.
Of course, why would she chose to be my fiancé for just a few months when she could get to bear the name and also enjoy the fame that comes with being Mrs Da Silva for 2 years.
“It’s okay, dear. I am so happy for the both you, Congratulations once again and please take care of my daughter. Also, please call me mom now okay? We are now, family,” her mother says as she hugs her daughter for the final time and I just smile.
Finally, we are in the car and on our way to the house and I tried to make sure that I was far away from her as possible.
Suddenly she speaks, “Mr Ryan, I would like to….”
But I cut coldly, “When we are alone, never you speak to me unless I ask you a question”.
As of now, I wasn’t ready to hear her speak to me at all.
But after a while through one corner of my eyes, I try to peek at her to see what she was doing and I see her fondling with the diamond ring on her hand.
“You really think you have won, right? Wait till I show you what 2 years of tying the knot with me means,” I say to myself and chuckle wickedly inwardly.
Now, at the house, I come down from the car and walk right straight to the door where my housekeeper has already opened it wide for me to enter as she greets me.
I could feel Anna following behind or perhaps fast walking to catch up with my steps.
Entering into the house, I see Jessica already in the house and she was the right person I needed to see once again.
Normally, I would have been too pissed to see her right now as I was already stressed but I would prefer to say that she was the right person I needed now to execute my plans.
“Babe, I am so sorry about the other day. I have been trying to reach out to. But what is this about you getting married? Tell me, it’s not true,” she begins to nag immediately she sees me.
It seems she hasn’t seen Anna yet so I walk up straight to her to do something crazy.
Something I would rather not do..
I kissed her on her lips forcefully as I just place my lips there not moving at all and stood right where Anna could see us clearly.
After that I leave Jessica breathless and surprised as I pulled away, then after a while, she asks when she finally sees Anna, “you really got married to her?”
I ignore her instead and facing Anna who her face down probably in shame, I say, “meet Jessica, my girl friend and welcome to your new home, Mrs Da Silva. The housekeepers will show you to your room and my PA will be in touch with you”.
Deep down what I really wanted to say was, “Watch as I make you pay for tying me down in marriage, you gold-digger”…..
