Rowie was in deep thoughts when her phone started ringing. She had just finished fixing her things and was ready to go to work. It was past one in the morning and Hilda must be waiting for her at the clinic by now.
She was the other part-time worker like her but was older than her by five years. Hilda was friendly and nice to her despite their age difference. Like Rowie, she loves animals like she does.
Instead of waking Janice, she looked at her stepmom and her stepsister, who were now sleeping peacefully in the hospital bed. Janice looked tired and was in deep sleep. There were dark circles under her eyes, and she was snoring a little.
