Saturday marked one week before practice officially began. But when Jo’s phone beeped in the morning, signaling the receipt of a new text message and waking him up, basketball was the last thing on his mind. His ears rang dully with the noise and music from the night before; his balls pulsed in time with his heart, and his head ached from too much beer drunk too quickly. All of his senses were still filled with Kevin, and as he reached for his phone, he hoped the text was from his new friend. Was it too early for a booty call? he wondered. Nah, it was never too early for s*x. Unfortunately the message wasn’t from Kevin at all, but rather one of his teammates looking to play ball. U up for a game? For the first time he could remember, Jo was disappointed the text was about basketball. B
