Chapter Three“How do I look, Aunt Millicent?” Helga cried out as she burst into her aunt’s bedroom wearing one of the gowns that she had brought from The Gaiety. It was a pale lilac and obviously designed to make whoever wore it look very young. At the same time it gave her a sylph-like, extremely elegant figure with a tiny waist and only a few folds at the back to echo the now departed bustle. “I think you look lovely, my dear,” Milly replied. She was sitting at her dressing table and, as she turned round, it was almost a blow to see how young and fresh Helga looked compared to her own face which she had been regarding critically in the mirror.
