The Office

Axel drummed his fingers on the boardroom table as he listened to the boring speech. He wrestled with his tie yet again, as the middle aged man went over a chart graph.  “Any sign of the girls?” He mind linked his office manager, tried to fend off a yawn. “Not yet sir ,I will let you know as soon as...Oh wait ,here they are!” “Finally! Call me out of this meeting in five, Maude, I can’t take this s**t any longer Will Do sir!” Axel could hardly contain his excitement! His mate was here, to work with him! He had dreamed of this day for so long, when the woman he loved would be at his side, and now here it was. Although that made him happier than he could imagine, there was another reason for his excitement. He had a little surprise cooked up just for his kitten ,if he didn’t get interrupted.. Layla stepped through the door of the imposing office building. Working as a courier ,she had seen most of the City, she had even delivered packages here, but never dreamed she would be working in the formidable law office.  The big plaque on the front of the building read “A And A Law Firm”, obviously the alpha and beta first initials. When she had first met Axel, she never took him for a lawyer. Head of a Construction Firm, maybe, possibly mercenary ,but never a lawyer. Her anxiety heightened just thinking of this. He was intimidating enough as it was, without being a big shot attorney, but now.. Reality was setting in. Layla’s nerves were getting the best of her at this moment. Thoughts zipped through her head like a rollercoaster ride zooming off track. What if she wasn’t good enough, what would his big business partners and clients think when they figured out she was Axel’s mate. She was only an eighteen year old girl, after all, with barely a high school education. She nervously bit her lip as Lacey introduced her to the Office manager. “Layla, so nice to meet you,” the woman, in her older twenties held out her hand. Layla nervously took it, hoping her sweating palms didn’t give her away.  “Nice to meet you too,” she murmured, hoping to get her shaking under control. “I’m Maude,” the woman introduced herself. She wore a navy blue dress that reached down to her black heels, and her long brown hair was secured tightly in a bun. Minimal makeup and a chic pair of glasses said this woman was all business, but Layla wondered what she was like after hours. Maude had to be a she-wolf, so she had to know how to let down her hair and have fun, right? Layla was a cat, by nature. She preferred lying in the shadows, only showing her seductive side ,if she had one, when necessary. Being a courier was the perfect job for her ,where she could run in and out without notice, and whizz onto the next client. Thinking about this, and her current situation made her wonder if she had made a mistake, agreeing to work here, under Axel’s watchful eye. “Don’t be nervous, kitten, you will do fine,” Jax leaned over her shoulder. ”These wolves don’t bite, they have nothing on you.” “Easy for you to say ,”Layla whispered through gritted teeth. “Just go with the flow,” he shrugged ,”Besides, Axel will be out to get you any minute.” “That’s what I’m afraid of,” she pouted. “Just relax ,and be yourself ,Layla” “That might be a bad idea” she muttered under her breath. “Axel is in a meeting,” Maude interrupted her thoughts, so for now I can show you around.” “Ok,” Jax sat himself down on one of the couches ,as Maude motioned for Layla to follow her. Lacey had taken off when they first arrived, presumably to Alex’s office to do who knows what. The office itself was decorated in a modern minimalist style. The floors were all black marble with gray walls ,and black and white pictures hanging here and there. The layout was simple: with the reception and waiting area located in the front, of course. There was a file room to the right with a computer work area followed by the individual lawyer’s offices, then the boardroom at the end of the hall. Through Maude, Layla discovered five other attorneys working there ,three men ,and two women ,each with a personal assistant. Maude went down the line, introducing her to each of the attorneys. Mel was in his mid forties ,with light brown hair. Tall and slim ,he was every bit the professional, as was his secretary ,Margo, a woman who appeared to be in her early thirties, with dark brown hair and brown eyes. She and her boss greeted Layla in a friendly manner ,never letting on if they knew Layla was Axel’s mate. Then there was Leo ,a man closer to Axel and Alex’s age, with blonde hair and blazing amber eyes .Everything about him screamed womanizer. He took Layla’s hand ,kissing it in an old fashioned manner ,making her want to vomit. His secretary ,Ted appeared to be in his early thirties. He tentatively greeted her with a bow.  Next was Emily, a staunch woman with dark blonde hair ,and dark blue eyes. She shook Layla’s hand, welcoming her to the firm .Her secretary, Uma, was barely older than Layla. In her form fitting pink dress and beige heels, she was the vision of what a perfect employee should be. “Welcome, Layla,” she hugged her .I have a feeling we are going to be good friends. “Thank you,” So far, Uma was her favorite. “Oh ,hello, Maude,” a tall, foreboding man greeted the office manager as she walked in. Layla could feel Chalci’s hackles raise when he walked over to shake her hand. “Derrick,” he took her hand, nearly breaking it when he shook it .Neither of them liked this man ,although they couldn’t discern why at the moment .His secretary, Diamond ,was a twenty something woman with an attitude. She scoffed at Layla and Maude ,refusing to acknowledge them. Her short leopard print dress and six inch heels, combined with her teased blonde hair spelled trouble. “Just ignore that b***h,” Maude whispered as they left the office.” That was Jim, by the way .Never turn your back on him.” “Why is he here?” Layla whispered, wondering why Axel would keep such a creep around. “Only for your alpha to keep an eye on the slimy bastard,” Maude grinned. Still no assumptions that she was Axel’s mate. Good, she would like to keep it that way.
