CHAPTER TWO“Focus,” she heard a deep gravely familiar voice whisper faintly in her right ear. Her gaze was still on the strange boy whose lips were now lifted to form a spine-chilling smirk.
“Dammit focus Meredith,” this time she found her gaze breaking as she shifted it to look at Brian Knight sitting next to her. His eyes were slightly red and not the drugs kind of red but more like the blazing fire kind of red. But she was too fazed up to even take notice.
“What?” She muttered as though in a haze. Brian grinded his jaw as he flirted one angry look at his older brother, before shifting his gaze back to Meredith.
“I said focus,” She shook my head, trying to clear whatever haze she had been caught in.
Brian was looking intently into her eyes but that was not what was making her heart race at an inexplicable speed at the moment. It was the butterflies making a wild dance in the pit of her stomach due to the touch of his hand on hers. It was slightly tensed but that didn’t stop heat enveloping her body. Electrifying tingles invaded her lithe body as she tried not to get too flustered.
“I’m Ace, Ace Knight,” now that explained the uncanny resemblance.
“He is your brother,” she muttered softly.
“Unfortunately,” Brian muttered but she didn’t miss the unfathomable contempt in his voice.
She watched Ace stride slowly to the back of the class, settling on an empty seat at the far end of the corner. By lunchtime Ace Knight was predictably much the main talk of the entire school. After all he had the Knight surname attached to his name and a bonus to that, was his brother being already popular. Meredith and Vivian were standing in the lunch line which seemed to be moving pretty much slower than all the other days.
“So, Ace or Brian?” Vivian questioned as she got served.
“Mmm…Brian is the sweet playboy if there is such a thing, Ace is clearly the darkly, mysterious, dangerous, bad boy. You know what my obvious choice would be,” She smirked as they began walking towards an empty lunch table. This was a little game they loved playing whenever they were trying to keep themselves preoccupied or when they thought there were two hot boys and in this case it was the Knight brothers.
“Of course you will go with-“Vivian began but was cut off.
“I’m sorry to cut your little chit chat but you are seating at my table,” Brian stated, taking the two girls by surprise.
He knew partly it was because they were intimidated by his popularity but knowing his brother, he wouldn’t risk him getting anywhere close to Meredith. She was his to protect and he would stop at nothing to make sure she was safe.
“We are?” Vivian seemed to have recovered from her shock faster than Meredith did.
“Not you. Her,” his gaze was fixed on Meredith and she loved how the butterflies in her stomach wouldn’t stop making a wild dance.
“I’m sorry but Vivian and I always sit together,” Meredith broke eye contact from his intense gaze. She then took Vivian’s hand walking towards an empty table at the far end of the cafeteria.
“Are you cray-cray? You just got an opportunity to sit at Brian Knight’s table and you just turned it down,” Vivian whispered.
“He yelled at me in the morning and now all of a sudden he is being nice? I don’t buy that crap,” they both sat down at an empty table placing their food in front of them. Truth be told, how was she supposed to sit with the most popular clique in school through a whole lunch hour? Brian was already making her feel all kinds of tingly, the twins were intimidating in a way and then there was mean Sarah. She’d probably make her vomit all her food mid-way through lunch hour.
“He is still Brian Knight, the hottest guy in school,” Well that could be true but it didn’t change the fact that he was rude to her in the morning.
