Chapter 2There was really not much she could do about it. Within a few days, C.S. and Jenna seemed to be joined at the hip. Any other time, Amy would have laughed, enjoying the bond the two children formed so effortlessly. No doubt both were lonely, sharing the pain of losing a parent, yet there seemed more to it than that.
But this was not any other time. She still found herself looking for out-of-state cars, jumping when her cell phone rang, and unable to shake a sense of dread. Conn would find them. He had endless resources at his disposal. He also had to suspect she knew more than she ever let on about his nefarious business. Having such knowledge at large could be dangerous to the whole Stavros operation.
