Chapter Four The dark paneled walls in the serene room didn’t provide her with much peace at all. It was all Gretchen’s idea to see Dr. Halvorson, after she’d raved on about the affair with Jose that she couldn’t prove and couldn’t deny. “She’s a great therapist, believe me,” Gretchen said. “I’m not going crazy,” Elena said, nearly reaching the top of her voice with the agitated exclamation. Gretchen had looked down at her over the tops of her wire rim glasses. She was more gray than the last time Elena had seen her, but no less condescending and controlling, all in her motherly sort of way. It was good that she didn’t take offense if Elena didn’t follow her advice, for she rarely did. It certainly didn’t keep the wildly opinionated woman from delivering her edicts as if she were a god
