Chapter 7: Daddy’s Home
Luke got home and let himself into his apartment building.
When he got up to his apartment door, he fished out his keys and looked for the right one until he remembered he’d given it to Jamie.
He knocked on his own door, and heard the pounding of little feet inside as Sofia must’ve rushed to the door. Luke heard muffled voices that sounded like Jamie telling her to wait, then finally the door opened.
“Daddy!” Sofia yelled in greeting.
Luke smiled and reached down to ruffle her hair. “Hey, squirt.”
Jamie stood aside to let Luke in, giving him a smile. “Hey.”
“Hey.” Luke smiled back. He felt self-conscious again in front of Sofia, so he didn’t lean in for a kiss. “So, uh…how’s things?”
“Yeah, good.” Jamie closed the door after him and gestured to the kitchen.
