Chapter 5: On Their Own
Jamie’s primary concern at being left in charge of a kid was that he’d lose her, that Sofia would run off and disappear forever, and it’d be all his fault for not watching her.
But surprisingly, Sofia stuck to him like glue after Luke left. Maybe she was more cautious with her dad gone.
Once Jamie realised Sofia wasn’t going anywhere without him, he relaxed minutely, and tried his best to make the rest of the day just as fun for Sofia.
They worked their way around the other exhibits, with Sofia drawing animals and Jamie checking his phone for messages.
It was getting late, and the zoo would only be open for another hour.
“There’s a cafe,” Jamie said, hoping he could convince Sofia to take a rest. He sure as hell needed one. “You wanna go check it out?”
