Pretty soon, we were inside the fairgrounds and I went to the booth to buy us tickets. Lily looked around, her eyes were full of amazement.
"Wow...It looks just like in the movies!" she said excitedly.
She wasn't kidding about being here for the first time! Her eyes sparkled under the twinkling lights and I found myself admiring her beauty again. The anger I felt earlier fading away slowly.
We walked around for a few minutes. She stopped when she saw the Ferris wheel.
"Can we ride that?" she asked shyly.
"Anything you want princess, it's a date after all," I smirked.
I grabbed a couple of tickets and we waited in line. Soon, it was our turn to get on. She inched closer as our car went up slowly and I smiled. I couldn't have plotted this better. We were to the top and the car stopped, and her breathing became faster and louder.
"Um...you okay there, princess?" I was worried.
"I ..I can't breathe, I am actually scared of heights." She was starting to hyperventilate.
"What the f**k! Why didn't you tell me? And you were the one who wanted to do this!" I exclaimed.
"I know...I just always wanted to do it so I thought I could give it a try," she said and tried to take a deep breath. Tiny beads of sweat started to form on her temple.
Jesus Christ, this chick is either really brave or totally crazy. I put my arms around her shoulder and pulled her closer.
"Hey, come on, it's okay princess, just breathe," I whispered and hugged her tighter. "You are alright, I am right here with you. Don't look down and watch how nice the view is."
She started to calm down and her breathing was going back to normal, but I didn't let her go.
The Ferris wheel started to move again and we made it to the ground. Her face was flushed as if she was embarrassed.
"I'm sorry I freaked out. You must think I'm a coward," she said, trying to hide her face with her hair.
Huh? Since when did she care what I thought about her?
I smiled and squeezed her hand. "Being afraid of the height is a pretty common thing, so no, I don't think you are a coward."
She looked at me and smiled, making my heart thump against my chest. She smiled at me!
"Thank you," she said.
We walked around the fair and played some games. She looked like she was actually having fun, the date was going better than I thought.
"Lily?" we stopped when someone called out to her.
I turned around and see a skinny redheaded girl approaching. She was one of the rich bitches I despised. She was walking alongside Luke, who's daddy owned several businesses around town. Hatred swelled inside me when I saw them. They were one of the ones that enjoyed putting people like me down.
"Hey Gina and Luke," Lily said, smiling.
Gina came and wrapped her arms around Lily. "Never thought I'd see you here!"
Luke looked at me up and down and frowned. "Yeah, what are you doing with Phillips? Didn't take you as the kind of girl to hang out with trash?"
Rage fueled inside of me and I stepped closer to Luke. I balled up my fist and glared at him.
"You got something to say to me you little b***h?"
"Luke!" Gina called out to warn him, " don't mess with him please he is dangerous." She gave me a worried look like I was gonna breathe fire at them. She looked back at Lily.
"What's going on, Lily? Why are you here with him? Did he force you to come here? Did he do something to you?" she held her hand. "We will take you home if you want."
I've had enough at that point. They were acting like I wasn't even there and I needed to show them they stepped into the wrong territory.
"Get your hands off of her," I roared and watched Gina recoiled. "As you can see she is with me and you are interrupting our date. Now go f**k off somewhere else."
Gina's eyes were full of disgust and hatred towards me. It would've bothered me more if I wasn't used to it already.
"Yeah right, like she would voluntarily go out with a piece of s**t like you. You must've kidnapped her. I'm calling the police if you don't let her go." Luke said.
"Guys please...stop this," Lily finally spoke. "He didn't kidnap me okay? I came here with him because I wanted to."
Gina's mouth was open in shock. I was surprised myself.
"Um..are you sure? You don't have to be scared of him Lily, we have your back." Gina pressed.
"Yes, I am actually having a good time too so don't worry about me. I'll see you guys at school." she smiled.
Luke stepped forward, still not convinced. "I don't buy it. No-one voluntarily would go out with this asshole. I say he tricked you."
My face turned red in anger and I started to bring my fist up to punch his stupid face but stopped when I felt soft arms grab my waist. Lily put her arms around my waist and held on to me to prevent me from jumping on Luke. Our bodies were close. Too close. I could feel myself relax and my anger fading away slowly.
"You guys are judging him too harshly," Lily said in a gentle voice. "He isn't an asshole, he helped me earlier. Just give him a chance, please?"
Gina shook her head. "Fine, if you say so. Just call me if you need me to come to get you okay?" with that, they both left.
Lily let go of me and I immediately missed her warm touch.
"I'm sorry about the things they said to you, they mean well. Gina is my cousin so she was just trying to protect me," she said.
"Yeah, whatever." I scoffed. "They were right anyway, I did force you to go out with me. You would have never agreed to go with trash like me."
"You aren't trash!" she protested. "And you didn't force me. I came out because I wanted to talk to you about Ryan."
"What's that wimp got to do with anything?" I asked.
Lily shook her head in frustration. "He is not a wimp! He is my brother! And I want you to leave him alone. I wanted to come out with you to tell you that."
"What, he is too weak to defend himself so he sends his sister? Pathetic loser." I snarled.
"He is not a loser! Why do you have to be an asshole? He never did anything to you so why?" She demanded to know.
Why? Why? Because I'm allergic to weak bastards like him, but I don't say that to her.
"Please....just listen to me and let him be. He'll stay out of your way I promise." she pleaded.
"And why should I listen to you?" I challenged and moved closer to her.
She twirled her hair nervously with her finger and avoided my intense gaze.
"I know you like me," she said, still not looking at me.
"And what makes you think that? I might be toying with you." I said.
"I felt it when you held me at the Ferris wheel, you weren't the angry, condescending, asshole you always pretend to be. You wanted to protect me." she finished, and her cheeks turned pink.
I couldn't say anything for a moment. This chick saw right through me.
"I'll make you a deal, I'll leave that bastard alone but in exchange, you are going to do anything I want you to do for an entire month," I said mischievously.
"Anything?" her eyes went wide with concern.
I smiled. "Yes, anything. Don't worry I'm not going to force myself on you. Believe me or not, I'm not that kind of guy."
She sighed. "Okay then, but you promise you'll leave him alone then?"
"Yes, I'll leave the wimp alone. So we have a deal or what?" I extended my hand so we can shake on it.
She hesitated, then took my hand. I could tell she was starting to regret this already. My insides were doing a cartwheel as I finally get to be close to her. She was mine for the entire month!
