People lounged in the grand room, waiting for the return of their Alpha King. Everyone looked up when he entered before their eyes focused on Catriona who half his behind him.
"Jay, you're back." A girl said as she hurried to him. When she saw Catriona, she froze.
"Oh no. No. Jay...don't tell me." The girl pleaded, tears clouding her piercing brown eyes.
"I'm sorry, Gwen." He said softly before looking to the woman with his eyes, "Mother, this is Catriona. She's my mate." Gwen began to cry, her beautifully tanned face scrunching up before she hurried from the room.
"Cat, I'm going to go talk to her. Jessica, Can you take her to my room?" A girl, the exact copy of Jay, moved to Catriona.
"Mama, come on." Jessica said with a smile before guiding Catriona up the grand staircase.
"You're pretty. Prettier than Gwen." Jessica mused as she set Jay's suitcase down. Catriona blushed and moved a long curl from her face.
"Jessica, Gwen is a fine young lady." Jay's mother said before looking down at Catriona.
"Jessica is Jay's twin sister and I'm obviously their mother. His father is probably downstairs. Don't listen to whatever he says about your...height." Catriona blushed and looked down at her hands.
"I hope you haven't scared her off. Catriona, I'll take you shopping in the morning. Mother, she's the daughter of the Lunae Alpha and Luna."
"Daughter? I thought that they were all slain."
"The pack's Alpha who killed the Lunae took Catriona when she was eight. She's nineteen now."
"Let her speak, Jay." His mother scolded gently. Catriona's face burned before she looked up at Jay.
"Catriona doesn't speak much. She went eleven years without speaking. Kitten, my sister will find you some clothes until tomorrow. Jess, don't be too weird." Jay pecked the top of Catriona's head before Jessica grabbed her hand eagerly and led her out.
"In the seer of the pack. You and I are going to be absolutely great friends. And you are going to be a great Luna." Catriona nodded and continued to follow Jessica.
"This was my room. I'm still moving out." Jessica said and began to go through a few drawers. She handed Catriona a long shirt and then a pair of jeans and a t shirt.
"You're all set." As they walked down the hall again, the brown haired girl, Gwen, stomped up to Catriona.
"This is your fault! He and I were happy until he met you, w***e! You are going to regret ever meeting him." Catriona looked up at her before her eyes found Jay. She rushed past Gwen and into Jay's arms. He pulled back to look at her, making sure that she was physically okay. Catriona couldn't stop the tears that misted her eyes, but she refused to let them fall.
"Little kitten," He pressed a kiss to the top of her head which reached the very bottom of his pecs, "Go back to our room with Jess. Or if you're hungry, one of the cooks could make us something to eat." Catriona looked back to Jessica and then to Jay.
"I'll be quick." He assured. Catriona sighed and nodded. Jessica smiled sympathetically at Catriona before leading her a little ways away. Then, they ducked behind a corner.
"I just want to hear what he'll say. He'll find us, but he'll only scold me." Jessica informed.
"Gwen, what do you think you're doing? She is my mate. Your Luna." Jay hissed quietly.
"It was supposed to be me! Not her! You were supposed to come back and say you didn't want to find anyone unless it was me!" Gwen said sharply. Jay sighed loudly.
"Just because you're mad at me does not mean you have any right to be mean to my mate." He said matter of factly. Gwen groaned, "Why didn't you reject her? We could've been happy. We still can be. Just reject her and be with me!" Gwen obviously seemed thrilled by the idea, but Jay obviously wasn't.
"I love my mate. You'll meet a wolf who completed you and then, it'll be like I never existed."
"And what until then, Jay? I have to bow down to the w*****g runt who took you from me?" Jay growled as he walked away, "You will never speak like that about it to her again. You should get home before your mother worries. Goodnight, Gwen. Good luck." Jay's footsteps followed and he passed the corner before pausing and turning to look at his mischievous sister and blushing mate.
"Jessica, Mama is leaving. Catriona...." He didn't need to say anything to her. "And Jessica, stop eavesdropping. It's rude." He draped an arm over Catriona's shoulder before leading her back to their bedroom. She looked around, looking for a bathroom, and smiled when he opened a door for her. The bathroom was dark blue and instantly soothed her nerves as she pulled her clothes off and pulled the long shirt on. When she entered the room again, Jay was already changed and in bed, flipping through channels on the TV. Catriona nervously climbed, literally, into the bed before getting under the blankets. Jay smiled and turned the TV off before pulling her closer to him.
"Sleep good, my little kitten." She nodded and buried her face in his neck before closing her eyes as she thought, What a day.
