Chapter 13The reception area of O’Connor Veterinary Clinic was festooned with multicolored balloons and streamers. There was also the banner and the pictures of the puppies which Mandy and Arnie had created. In the center of the room was a circular, collapsible puppy pen for Mama and her babies. Around the walls, tables had been set up for the local shelter and several rescue groups who had been invited to offer dogs for adoption. There were also crates as each group had asked if they could bring dogs of their own to the clinic. Collin had limited them to three dogs each to avoid overcrowding. In one corner was a large table laden with refreshments: bagels, donuts, Danish, coffee, tea, and orange juice. Next to it, another table for registering adopted dogs with the clinic had been set up.
