Chapter 1 – Bow your heads

Alpha Jake In Milford, where humans and werewolves lived side by side, the separation between our two worlds was stark, yet somehow accepted. The humans governed themselves through a republic, with a president at their helm. Meanwhile, we, the werewolves, followed a different structure. We had our own hierarchy, with me as Alpha leading the pack and enforcing the rules. This dual system kept a fragile balance, each side respecting the other’s way of life, though beneath it all, mistrust simmered. I stood now with Beta Lucas, my cousin Norton, and a soldier from the Crest Moon Pack, ready to address a serious challenge. We were here to settle a score with the Green Eyes Pack, led by Alpha Billy. They had dared to attack one of my pack members’ home and hurt them, leaving us no choice but to respond. It was a bold move on their part, and not one I was prepared to ignore. As we approached their territory, the air crackled with tension. The Green Eyes Pack had clearly underestimated the gravity of their actions. I wasn’t one to let such disrespect go unanswered. I shifted into my wolf form, my fur a deep gray with black markings, my green eyes glowing fiercely in the dark. The transformation was quick, proof of years of training and dominance. Alpha Billy looked up, his eyes widening with shock as I lunged at him. He had clearly not anticipated such a direct assault. As I closed in, I could see his fear. He was frozen, his eyes wide as he awaited the blow he thought would end his life. But I wasn’t here just to kill; I wanted to make a point. “Alpha Billy,” I growled, my voice deep and resonant even in my wolf form, “I will not stand by and let anyone attack my pack without a fight. But I will give you and your pack a choice. You can bow down, accept my authority, and join the Crest Moon Pack, or I will not hesitate to eliminate every last one of you and turn your pack into ashes.” Billy trembled, his body shaking as he shifted from his wolf form to his human one. He fell to his knees, his voice trembling as he pleaded, “Please, Alpha Jake, have mercy. Don’t kill us. We’ll do anything. Just don’t finish us.” I shifted back into my human form too, meeting his gaze with a steely look. “Will you become part of the Crest Moon Pack?” I asked, my tone cold and firm. “Yes, yes!” Billy shouted, then looked at his pack members, his voice echoing across the clearing. “Everyone kneel! Kneel down and give respect to Alpha Jake! We will now become part of the Crest Moon Pack! I’m stepping down as your Alpha. We’re joining Alpha Jake’s pack!” The Green Eyes Pack members followed suit, kneeling in submission. Billy’s former pack members shivered, their eyes darting nervously as they pledged their loyalty. I could see the fear and uncertainty in their faces, but they knew better than to oppose us now. “If any of you betray me or lie,” I warned, my voice carrying a power, “you will find yourselves imprisoned or vanished into thin air. This is your last chance. Show your loyalty and you will be protected. Cross me, and you will face consequences you can’t imagine!” Billy and his pack members bowed lower, their voices a chorus of acceptance as they promised their loyalty. I nodded, satisfied with their response. I signaled to my soldiers to remove the Green Eyes Pack’s flag and replace it with the Crest Moon Pack’s banner. It was a symbol of their new allegiance, a visual reminder of the power shift that had just occurred. “Tomorrow,” I told Billy, “my pack members will assist in building your community. We’ll help you get back on your feet. But remember, any sign of betrayal, and you will regret it.” Billy and the others thanked me profusely, expressing their relief and gratitude. “We’ve lived in poverty for so long,” Billy said. “Thanks to you, Alpha Jake, we finally have a chance at a better life.” Beta Lucas, Norton, and I left the area, heading back to the Crest Moon Pack’s mansion. Beta Lucas turned to me with a grin. “You handled that well, Alpha Jake, you didn’t need to use force to conquer them. Just show them who the boss is.” Norton, however, wore a frown. “You need to be careful, Alpha Jake. Trust can be dangerous. Anyone could betray you.” I nodded, my expression serious. “I know, Norton. But as long as I understand my enemies’ weaknesses, I won’t be defeated. It’s the only way to ensure our pack’s safety and stability.” As we approached the mansion, I saw my Aunt Lucille waiting anxiously at the entrance. Her face was drawn with concern. Since my parents died in that rogue attack five years ago, Aunt Lucille had been a steady presence, though she was not always easy to deal with. “What’s wrong, Aunt Lucille?” I asked as we approached. Lucille’s worry was evident on her face. “Alpha Jake, there’s troubling news. In the forest of Liwdoe, it is said that the rogues are causing chaos again. I fear that the same rogues who killed your parents are involved.” A surge of anger and pain coursed through me. The memory of my parents' deaths was still raw, a wound that hadn’t fully healed. “I’ll investigate this immediately,” I said, “I need to know if these rogues are responsible and put a stop to them before they can harm anyone else again.” Lucille nodded, her eyes filled with concern for me. “Be careful, Alpha Jake. These rogues are dangerous.” “I will,” I promised. “I won’t let them threaten our pack.” As I prepared to delve into this new threat, my willpower was stronger than ever. The balance of power in Milford might be delicate, but I was determined to maintain it and ensure the safety of my pack. The investigation into the rogue threat was just beginning, and I knew it would be a challenge. But I was ready.
