Chapter 1 Under Siege in the Storm
Yasmine Yancey was curled up on the ground, shivering as the cold barrel of a gun pressed against her temple. The pouring rain soaked through her, chilling her to the bone.
The thugs around her were yelling, "Your husband intercepted our boss' shipment at the docks. If you want to live, call him now and tell him to cough up the money!"
It felt like her ribs had been kicked in. The pain was overwhelming, and she could barely think. Would her husband, in name only, even care if she lived or died?
Sirens and gunshots sounded in the distance, getting closer.
"Damn it, cops are swarming in! Freaking bastards!" The thugs spat out a string of curses.
Knowing these desperados would kill her if things continued this way, Yasmine struggled to speak, "Give me the phone... I... I'll call him now."
A phone was thrust into her hand, and she dialed the familiar number. The call was put on speaker, only to reveal another woman's voice on the other end.
"Mmm... Ahh! Hayden, my dear, harder. Penetrate me with it!" The sweet moans pierced Yasmine's ears, followed by the man's pleasurable grunts.
"Mmm, Isabella, my honey, take it all. Good girl. Now, let's go to heaven."
Yasmine let out a sad chuckle. Her husband was in bed with another woman while she was on the brink of death.
"Yasmine... ugh... What game are you playing now? Spit it out! I'm busy!" Hayden Yancey's voice came through, impatient.
"I've been kidnapped because you stole goods from someone at the docks." Yasmine's voice trembled. "Hayden, just give them their money back, or they're going to kill me..."
The long moan of that woman on Hayden's bed cut through the rain, and Yasmine bit her lip so hard to keep from crying.
"Kidnapped? Docks? I thought you were better than this. Yasmine, I always knew you wanted to get in my bed, but I didn't know you would concoct any lie to make it happen!"
His merciless words shattered Yasmine's last hope. She knew she shouldn't have called. Hayden probably wished she was already dead!
Maybe he had even set her up as a decoy for these thugs.
Defiantly, she spoke, "I'm not lying! Do you want them to kill me? We've been married for three years..."
"Enough! If it weren't for my grandfather's arrangement, you think you'd be worthy of marrying me?" Hayden roared before hanging up.
That woman's panting stopped abruptly, leaving only the overwhelming sound of the rain and the cold gun barrel.
The thug, surprised by the quick hang-up, slapped Yasmine and growled, "Damn you useless b***h!"
Then he dragged her up to use as a human shield. "Let's take her as a hostage and shake off the cops!"
As her neck was viciously grabbed, Yasmine gave up struggling and closed her eyes in resignation.
Just then, a convoy of black luxury cars charged into the scene of the police shootout with the thugs, followed swiftly by a helicopter.
"Is this backup for the kidnappers?!" One officer shouted, "Be on guard! Be on guard!"
The wind from the helicopter blades made it difficult to see, but from the black cars, a dozen bodyguards with heavy weapons took control of the scene.
A man in black, wearing sunglasses, jumped from the helicopter, landing gracefully without giving a glance around. He walked straight to the police sniper and took off his sunglasses.
"Tell me. What are your chances of taking out the leader with one shot?" he asked the sniper.
His features were sharp and commanding, and though he seemed calm, the veins on his forehead and his furrowed brow betrayed his real emotions.
"Xavier Quinlan?!" The officer recognized the man, the head of the Quinlan family. "What are you doing here?!"
"Answer me." Xavier's voice was cold.
"I'm 90% sure," the sniper replied, trembling.
"But I can't afford to lose the remaining 10%." Xavier sighed and closed his eyes. "I'll take over."
He swiftly took the sniper's rifle, and through the scope, he saw the woman who had haunted his thoughts for years.
She lay there as beautiful as the day he remembered but now battered and bruised like a crushed rose.
A fierce pain tore through Xavier at the sight. How could they treat her that way?!
As the officer continued to shout at the thugs, Xavier's gaze hardened, focusing on the black-clad thugs.
He had fired his weapon countless times, but this was the first time he felt fear before pulling the trigger.
His heart was racing, yet his hands were eerily steady.
Bang!
A headshot, leaving no time for reactions, Xavier pulled the trigger again.
Bang! Bang! Bang!
The world went silent; only the relentless rain continued to pour.
The bodies of the thugs fell into puddles of blood.
Yasmine collapsed to the ground alongside them. Darkness enveloped her vision as she lost consciousness.
