Chapter Fifteen Chief Valkirra Adelriksdottir, shadowed by a brace of guards, walked down the corridors of the Temple with great dignity, but with such purpose on her face that the acolytes retreated discreetly from her path. The Chief’s chilly calm was almost frightening. Valkirra was better known for her empathy and approachability. She was not feeling particularly approachable at the moment. The Settlement was, on the whole, a peaceful place, dedicated to the construction of a fulfilling and harmonious life, one whose days would be spent in supporting the wellbeing of the community, furthering the fortunes of one’s family, and maintaining a seemly reverence for the authority of the Chief and the Temple.
