Five years later. San Francisco airport.
Amy walked out of the airport holding Logan’s hand in one and Laurel’s hand in the other.
She felt slightly nervous as she looked at the flourishing city.
Five years ago she took one million dollars and married a strange man. Her marriage felt absurd to her. And she still had no idea what her husband looked like or who he was.
She only knew that her husband’s surname was Parker. Because every time she asked her Aunt Patricia about him, she would respectfully call him Mr. Parker.
She didn’t see her marriage certificate either. She was asked to send a picture of her. Then she was told she was married to him. It was said that the photo on their marriage certificate was processed through Photoshop because Mr. Parker didn’t like to take pictures with people.
She returned because she was recommended for a job by her teacher in San Francisco. Yet another important reason was that Mr. Parker wanted her to sign the divorce agreement.
Yes, divorce.
It was time for them to end their absurd marriage.
But she was very grateful to Mr. Parker. The one million dollars he gave her at that time was really of great help. Moreover, over the past five years, he never imposed any restrictions on her. She went abroad by herself to study further. She gave birth to her children alone. And he was okay with everything.
The money he gave was like a gift sent from heaven.
On the day of the divorce, she decided to say thank you to him.
As it was their first time in San Francisco, Laurel's big black grape-like eyes were filled with surprise. And she gazed at Logan. "Logan, I have a hunch that we will see our dad soon."
"Well, I’ve some idea who he could be." The expression on Logan's face didn't change in the slightest. His iceberg-like cold face was incredibly good-looking.
"Really?" Seeing him nod, her cute little face was full of pride. "Oh, you are so awesome. I am happy that you are my brother."
She ran to him and whispered, "Can you show me the picture of Dad?"
"Mm-hmm," he responded quietly. Then he passed the two photos he had to her.
"Between these two persons, there is a possibility one of them is our father."
"Daddy!" she screamed with excitement. She could finally see her father.
Laurel looked like Amy. But Logan and Amy shared no resemblance at all. His appearance resembled their legendary father.
Using technology, Logan kept trying to match photos of people who looked similar to him. After more than a month, he found two persons that were most similar to him.
Mike. Steven.
Mike and Steven were cousins. One must be their father between them. If he could find a way to do paternity tests with them, he could determine who was his father.
Amy was so immersed in her thoughts, she didn't notice what her kids were talking about.
She seemed so lost until she heard a hysterical scream outside the airport.
"Mom! Mom! What's wrong with you? Help! Please help my mother!"
She knew that voice. Her body became stiff after hearing it. She involuntarily turned toward Susan.
She saw that a woman was lying on the ground. It was Julie, Susan's mother. Julie’s lips were purple and Amy observed that her chest wasn’t moving. It was not good.
Amy realized that Julie was having a heart attack. And Amy was in shock. She didn’t like Julie. But as a doctor, she couldn’t turn away from a dying person.
After thinking for a moment, Amy stepped forward, towards Susan and Julie. Now, she must perform CPR on Julie. Otherwise, she would die before the ambulance arrived.
"Get out of the way!"
Amy pushed aside people in front of her and rushed to Julie. She bent down and began pressing Julie’s heart.
"Amy?" Susan recognized her. "Amy, what are you doing? Let go of my mother!" Uttering those words, Susan gathered her strength and tried to slap Amy.
