Chapter 15... Seeing her face

904 Words
Remy was shocked to see the lady's face, as he had seen her dancing earlier with Anthony but hadn't properly seen her face then. After he exclaimed, "What the heck!" he attracted a lot of attention, as Anthony had yet to propose to Clara. Clara didn't know when Remy arrived, and seeing Anthony go down on one knee in front of her, she got nervous, realizing that Anthony wanted to propose to her in front of everyone. Mr. and Mrs. Gregson frowned, while Lerisa's parents, also seated in the VIP section, frowned upon seeing Anthony wanting to propose to another lady. They had all hoped that Anthony would marry Lerisa and fall in love to seal their family closeness. But they were wrong, as Anthony took out a red ring box from his suit trouser pocket and opened it to reveal a sparkling diamond ring. He proposed to Clara right in front of everyone, who was amazed. Clara was emotional, as were most of the young women in the hall who had been crushing on Anthony. Some were jealous seeing that their boss wanted to marry another lady instead of dating them first, while others blushed and admired the scene. Ben paused and stared back at Clara and Anthony on the stage. Even though he had been angry that Lerisa had a crush on Anthony, however, he was now glad and anticipated Anthony popping the question and marrying Clara so he could have Lerisa. Ben knew Anthony wasn't interested in a relationship with Lerisa, even though Anthony mostly referred to her as his younger sister. He grinned, eagerly waiting for Anthony to ask Clara, "Will you marry me?" Clara blushed as Anthony took out the sparkling diamond ring from the box and took her left hand with love in his eyes, asking, "Please, Clara Harry... will you marry me, Anthony Gregson?" As Clara was about to reply, "Yes, Anthony! I will," Remy appeared on stage and called Clara by her fake name, "April!" Clara shuddered and stared at Remy in shock. She hadn't expected to see him. She quickly pretended not to know him, averted her gaze to Anthony, and replied, "Yes, Anthony, I will marry you." "What! You conniving liar! How dare you lie to me about your name and that you're single? And you want to marry my brother too?" Remy questioned angrily, and Anthony was shocked by Remy's public accusations. Clara frowned, wondering when Remy became cousins with Anthony. 'How were they brothers?' Clara thought, as she had been dating Anthony for three years and hadn't seen anyone related to him. She knew he was the only child of his parents. Anthony stood up and glared at Remy, asking, "What's wrong with you, Remy? Do you know her?" Anthony wondered who invited Remy to his birthday party, as Remy was his mother's elder sister's only son, and he never liked associating with Remy since he was a troublemaker and a club addict. "Know her?" Remy scoffed, taking out a cigarette from his pocket, lighting it, and replying, "I slept with her last night at my house, and I'm shocked to see you here proposing to her today." "What?" Anthony rushed at Remy, not caring that they were cousins. He punched Remy hard in the face, and they started fighting. "Anthony!" Both their mothers rushed to separate them. Anthony's mother frowned at him and pulled him away, while Remy's mother pulled Remy away and frowned at him, too, as did his two sisters for ruining everything. Clara was more than embarrassed to see that Anthony believed what Remy said, and she couldn't deny it. She had told Anthony the previous night that she had gone to a club for her friend's birthday. "Please, babe, I'm sorry," Clara begged as she approached Anthony to hold his hands, trying to stop him from leaving. But Anthony was furious and shoved her hand away irritably. He was heartbroken, unable to believe she would cheat on him after everything he'd done for her. He had given her money, time, and everything, yet she still cheated, and with his cousin the previous night, even after he had told her to leave the club. "How could you, Clara? After all that I did for you?" Anthony asked in pain, feeling like crying but holding back, as he had vowed never to cry for any woman again. "Please, Anthony... I'm sorry, it was a mistake. I blame the alcohol that Sandra gave me," Clara cried, kneeling to beg Anthony, not minding the onlookers. "Alcohol? Really? But I asked you to leave there and go home. I'm highly disappointed in you, Clara. Just leave now, or let me be alone," Anthony warned calmly, already having returned the ring to his pocket. "Please, Anthony... forgive me, I love you," Clara begged, standing up to approach Anthony again, but he yelled, "Don't!" "Don't come near me again, or I'll deal with you. Get out!" Anthony barked coldly, and the murmuring hall fell silent. Clara didn't dare approach him again. She stood aside, crying, watching as Anthony exited through a secret door. Clara wanted to chase after Anthony but was scared and knew he was mad. She felt ashamed, standing there, and immediately ran out, exited the hall, running outside to her car, even in high heels. She rushed to her black car, hopped inside, started it, and drove off home in shame.
