CH.2- Survive!

Marcus invested himself in the show he was watching. Full-on anti-noise canceling 3D headset. 4K o-led monitor, and some snacks. Marcus seems to be someone who cannot be disturbed by anything when fully invested in the shows he is watching. Also, he can buy these things cause he knows how to save money. But the show he was watching was about to end. Marcus, like any typical otaku, would feel a one-hour premiere episode only lasting fifteen-minutes, especially when the premiere episode of the show is too good. “That's the end? Why are they leaving me on a cliffhanger? I better watch the next episode next week. The studio put a ton of effort into this episode. But the next episode better not disappoint me.” Marcus immediately grabbed his smartphone and put up a reminder. After writing the reminder on his phone. Marcus removed his headset and started to think about what he should do. “It's Saturday tomorrow, so that means I can sleep later tonight. Plus our teacher did not give any homework. What should I do? Maybe I can play some games. I haven't played rank for a while.” Marcus immediately opened his favorite MOBA game and logged on. However, when the game was starting to load. Marcus received a notification on his screen, notifying that the game servers were updating for an hour. Of course, this caused Marcus to be disappointed. “Too bad. Guess better get to sleep then.” Marcus removes his headset and shuts down his computer. He then went towards his bed. But on his way, he heard something downstairs. It was someone breaking his grandpa's antique vase. Marcus suddenly felt all of his hair in his body stood up. He believed that a burglar had entered his house while fully immersed in watching his show. Marcus did not dare to go downstairs, so he immediately grabbed his phone and called the cops. But when Marcus tried reaching the cops, his service provider's signal went down. “Not now, please.” Marcus immediately tried to open his computer to try and look for help online on any social media sites. However, when Marcus opened his personal computer, his house's power instantly turned off. “Why the hell did this have to happen!” Silently yelled Marcus. Marcus immediately rushed toward the window of his room and checked if he can jump down. But Marcus saw that the height was a little bit too dangerous. So he started to look for anything he can use to rappel down the window. Marcus searched for blankets and curtains. But as he was looking for the things he needs. The windows suddenly shut themselves. Seeing this, Marcus started to panic, but this event gave Marcus a clue that he was not dealing with a burglar. But a supernatural occurrence or being. However, the being still does not indicate whether it is only trying to poke fun at Marcus or a demon out there to kill Marcus. So Marcus still has doubts if it was safe to go outside. So Marcus still thinks that the safest room in the house was his bedroom. However, Marcus knew that he could not stay there forever as the thing that broke in might check each room. So his mind processed that the only way to survive was playing a game of “hide and seek” with the unknown supernatural being. His strategy was to change between multiple hiding places, so this strange thing would not locate him. Marcus immediately looked for any possible weapons that can fend himself. In case the unknown being tries to attack him, or things don't go according to his plan. Gladly he was keeping a wooden baseball bat in his room. It seems not much, but it's good enough. But he remembered that a better weapon was in the kitchen. It was the sword he had left after almost cutting one of his toes. After grabbing the baseball bat, Marcus opened his door slightly. He was peeking out to scan his surrounding. After checking that it was safe, he slowly walked out of his room. But before going downstairs, Marcus peeked below. He was not able to see the creature personally, but he saw its shadow. The creature seemed to be inside one of the rooms downstairs as a door was open and the noise was coming from there. However, seeing the shadow gave Marcus another valuable piece of information about the unknown supernatural creature. “That thing can only lock exits to the house. However, it seems that it cannot lock doors inside.” Marcus slowly walked down the stairs making as little noise as possible. After successfully going downstairs, Marcus immediately went toward the kitchen. But as he was going there, the creature suddenly walked out of the room that it was in, causing Marcus to hide behind the center kitchen island counter instantly. Marcus controlled his breathing and covered his mouth to reduce the noise he creates. However, a rotten smell of a dead rat surrounded the entire house after Marcus notice the creature. “What the hell is that thing.” Marcus slightly peeked, and what he saw caused him to almost vomit. A creature with the head and upper body of a man and the lower body of a dog, crawling on all fours. The human head had a long tongue and was drooling all over the place. It produced a sound similar to a tropical bird found in Asia. *Tik-tik. Tik-tik. Tik-tik.* Its footsteps were also loud, allowing Marcus to hear where the creature's location is. Multiple things started to run on Marcus' mind, but the most dominant was fear. However, Marcus did not want to die at the hands of such a creature. So he mustered his courage to think of another strategy to evade meeting the being. “That thing has a shadow, and I saw it with my two own eyes. That creature has a physical body. It means there's a possibility that the sword I left somewhere here can still injure or kill that thing.” Marcus peeked once again at the creature. However, he did not find it. But Marcus saw one of the rooms open. But unlike before, he did not see the shadow of the creature. Also, the footsteps and the bird-like sound were still loud. Marcus used these sounds to his advantage to locate the monster without peeking much. Marcus pulled his head back to his hiding spot after peeking. But as Marcus felt relieved for a while, out of nowhere, he suddenly started to have headaches. And suddenly, out of nowhere, Marcus heard a male's voice speak to him in his head. “Kid, a word of advice that thing, is far if he sounds loud. But if the noise it creates becomes lower. That means that thing is near.” “Who are you!?” yelled Marcus in his head. However, the voice did not reply to him. But Marcus remembered what the male voice told him. “It's loud when it's far. It's quieter means it's near.” As Marcus processed everything suddenly got him worried. The noise of the creature suddenly became lower. It was also when Marcus understood what the unknown male voice was trying to tell him. Marcus suddenly felt his heartbeat started to beat fast. He knew that the thing was just near him, but he was too afraid to even far to look. What Marcus only did was held tightly to his bat. Marcus started to drip cold sweat as the lower noise of the monster became silent. All of the hair in his body stood up, and he could feel a cold air of breeze stroke his neck. A viscous liquid with an unpleasant smell from above fell on his shoulder. Marcus then slowly gazed above him and saw a human head sticking out its long slithery tongue, staring at him. Marcus' initial reaction was to rush toward the door. But due to the effect of fear, Marcus' legs felt unresponsive. “Come on, legs. Why won't you respond? Just dash toward the door. You can outrun this thing.” Marcus' mustered all of his remaining courage to stand up. Then he suddenly felt his legs started shaking, causing him to have a final hope he can still dash for the last run. Marcus, with everything he got, sprinted towards the door. However, the monster grabbed Marcus in his ankle by wrapping its tongue around Marcus' ankle, which caused Marcus to lose his balance and fall. “Ahh! My ankle hurts. This wretched thing broke my Achilles tendon. Goddamn it! Why does this have to happen!?” Suddenly the creature spoke, “What a lucky day. I cannot believe that I would be having a snack. While I destroy that wretched Kampilan.” “What?? Is he going to eat me? And what the hell is a Kampilan.” Marcus, even thinking these things, started the desperately crawled away using his hands. “This is not the way I want to die. Grandpa, help me, mom, dad, anyone, please HELP ME!” “So you don't want to die, kid.” Asked the same male voice that warned Marcus. “Please! if you're here, HELP ME!” Suddenly the male voice started to laugh. “Ha-ha-ha-ha! Amusing human. I never thought that I would see another human begging for help.” The creature's tongue suddenly pulled Marcus. However, while Marcus got pulled back by the monster, in an instant, a shiny object flew towards the beast. Cutting off its tongue that wrapped around Marcus' leg. *GYAAAAAAAAAAA!!!* An eerie scream dominated the area as blood drip down from the monster's mouth. “My twang! How dwal.” When the monster looked at the part of his tongue that got separated, his eyes suddenly almost popped out of their sockets, as he saw a sword was the one that cut off his tongue. “Empattible! t**t twing hat chooten it, owner. Dwon't twell me he choot t**t weterner kwid.” “Shut up, you vile beast!” the Sword spoke out loud. “Hey kid, you don't want to die, right?” Marcus was stunned by the thing he saw. A talking sword and a beast that Marcus had never seen before. However, Marcus knew that if he wants to survive this situation. He has to answer the sword's question. Then without hesitation, Marcus yelled his answer. “YES!” “Then make a contract with me, kid.” “What should I do to that?” Asked Marcus, who was still terrified. “Just hold me in your hand, kiddo, and wait for anything to appear on your wrist.” The creature, however, launched itself to the sword. Which the sword immediately evaded by flying away. “Do you think I would allow a cursed weapon like you to have a welder?” “Damn it!” Yelled the sword. The monster was not planning on catching the sword but was targeting Marcus. However, the sword was faster as it flew itself toward the monster. The blade was so fast that its velocity caused the beast to lose its momentum. After stopping the creature, the sword immediately flew towards Marcus's palm. Then suddenly, a turquoise color glow illuminated the entire place. Marcus suddenly felt the sword was lighter than before. And a pair of bracelets with a turquoise color pear embedded on it appeared. “Noooo!” Screamed the beast. “Weterner wat chooten! I-impottible!” The creature immediately rushed forward to attack Marcus. “Kid, never hesitate to kill in one swing.” “Why is everything going slower? Why is the sword lighter now?” “Kid, I know you have a ton of questions in your head. But prepare to do a big swing cause you only have one chance to kill and to survive.” Marcus immediately went into a stance, prepared to swing the giant single-edged sword. It was like he had used a sword before. Marcus then saw a turquoise green line appear in the monster's neck. “Slice that line, kid, to end this bastard!” Marcus immediately did what the sword told him. When the monster came into the sword's range, Marcus slashed the sword without hesitation. The beast tried to block it with his hand. But this move was futile as the sword just cut through his fingers, reaching its neck. In a single one-hundred-eight-degree swing, Marcus cut the monster's head like cutting tofu. A splurge of blood immediately followed, which came from the creature's body. Then everything went back to normal. The slow-motion perception of Marcus disappeared, then the sword became heavier. And the creature's head fell to the floor, along with its body that it got separated from. After giving a final look at the beast, Marcus lost consciousness. But before he completely closes his eyes, he saw someone broke the window of his house.
