Delilah.
Delilah.
Control yourself.
Do not let him sense your grief.
I say to myself but the best way to do that is to stop talking. I take my gaze to the floor and Alpha Thorn blocks my path.
“You never wanted to marry him? Tell me the truth! He asks and my fears begin to cloud my answer.
Why is he asking these questions? Does he believe I have something to do with Brad’s death like others think?
“Why would you say that? You don’t know anything about our relationship. You shouldn’t be too quick to judge, Alpha.” I reply, clutching my bag and he is gazing down at me.
By my side, he is giant and I’m a squirrel.
“It seems you have forgotten that I am Alpha. I can practically
“Then, you must know how I feel about you?” I reply and for the first time, his reaction changes towards me. I expected his face to tighten, no feeling of remorse or emotion, but this time, it looks like my words have caused a blow to his stony heart. At the chance that I get to walk away, seizing the time to walk up the stairs and get as far away from him as possible.
I open the door to my room and I am flagger basted at the state of the room. I definitely did not leave my bed upside down, my clothes everywhere on the floor, jewelry out of their boxes and slimy liquid on the rugs, clothes and bed. I am stunned and shocked at the same time.
Who could have done this to my room and why?
Slowly, I walk in, and I try not to step on the brown liquid that is squirted everywhere and ultimately, I remember a piece of jewelry that belonged to my dead mother. It was a necklace she wore on my neck a few minutes before she died.
Frantically, I begin to search everywhere but I cannot sight it. My hands begin to shake and my heart begins to beat fast too.
I almost sigh in relief when I see it at a corner and I rush to pick it from the floor. Unfortunately, it has broken into two. It is an emerald colored necklace in the color green and it is the only safekeep that I have from my mother.
I inhale because I do not want to burst into tears and I’m trying to control myself.
However, the more I look at its broken pieces, the angrier I get and I cannot hold it in any longer. I walk out of the room and I begin to head downstairs to have a conversation with Alpha Thorn in order to find out who must have done this.
As I head down the stairs, the Alpha’s sister bumps into me arrogantly and I know that I’m supposed to let it go, but I instantly feel as if she had a hand in it.
“Did you go into my room?” I ask and she stops walking, looking back at me.
“Excuse me? Maddy says.”
“I think you heard me.” I say, defiantly.
Maddy goes down the staircase and I follow her. She folds her hands together and rolls her eyes at me.
“It’s just a stupid question. Did you really ask if I went to your room? You damn i***t, when did the pack house become something you can call yours?” Maddy asks, calling me names immediately.
“Oh, is it because you are upset that I’m staying here? Is that why you played around with my stuff!?” I ask.
“Honestly, I blame Thorn. How could he accept a stupid omega as his mate? You don’t have any powerful family backing. You are practically a leech! I’m sure this is the most luxurious place you have ever lived in.” Maddy says.
“You are just a spoilt brat. Have you ever thought about that? If you have so much time thinking about the weak wolf I am, you should have time to think about how great of an example you are!” I say, and her hands turned into a fist.
Her eyes gaze at my broken emerald necklace and she rolls her eyes.
“And that necklace…it fell while I threw it on the floor. Oops!” Maddy says.
“So, you broke it?” I ask.
“I could replace it for you. It looks like a cheap necklace from a store downtown.” Maddy says.
“You are disgusting!” I say to her, angry and biting my lips in frustration.
However, Maddy is mad that I called her disgusting and, in retort, she raises her hand in the air to hit me, but I grab hold of her before she can strike me. I push her away and just at that moment, Thorn walks in and it looks like I’m the one who picked on her.
“Thorn, did you see that? She hit me and pushed me for no reason.” Maddy squeals and gets behind her brother.
I am still so mad that she shows no remorse for destroying my necklace that I’m not even ready to tell him it’s a blatant lie. The only thing that I can see is my mother’s safekeep in my hands, broken into two.
“You hit my sister?” Alpha Thorn asks and I don’t reply.
I seal my hands shut and I’m about to walk away when Alpha Thorn pulls me back.
“I’m talking to you!” His thunderous voice awakens me from my delusions and sadness of the necklace that I shudder and my wolf prowls when I realize that his hand is around my arm.
“I didn’t hit her.” I say but according to the look on his eyes, he is not going to believe that or anything that I say.
“Thorn, she is lying!” She blames me for going into her room and touching her stuffs. I didn’t even go near it. Maddy lies and I know he believes her.
“You did and you broke my necklace!” I say, trying to show her the damage, but Thorn pulls me back roughly. He slams me towards the wall and I close my eyes in utter shock. I don’t even want to open my eyes to look at him because I’m sure it’s scary.
My hands began to shake even when I did not do anything wrong. I am literally being convicted for something that I had no hand in.
“Thorn, you are hurting me…I say, coughing, but he drags me away from the wall into another room that I do not recognize.”
It seems you will have to learn the very hard way. He says, pushing me into a room with dim light.
“What are you doing?” I asked, looking around the empty room, unsure of what I was supposed to do.
“I want you to reflect on your actions in this empty room. I will not allow you to get away with hitting my sister just because aunt Susan made me accept you. I do not accept you.” Thorn says, closing the door and leaving me in the dim room.
