“Miss Jones, are the people in the Southern Islands so shameless and unreasonable?… No, that’s a bit wrong. Mr. Donovan and Chef Peterson were different from that person we just met earlier!” Abby grumbled while driving. Her anger hadn’t subsided even just for a bit, even if a couple of minutes had already passed.
“Haven’t you recognized who that man was?” Kathryn calmly asked.
“Who? The man earlier? Is he some kind of important person here in the city?… But, he does seem familiar now that you have mentioned it, miss. I think I have seen him somewhere?” Abby kept on rummaging through her brain when, suddenly, her eyes widened in shock. “Miss was that—”
There’s no need for confirmation. Just by looking at Kathryn’s expression, Abby knew that her guess was right. That man earlier was Arion Hook… And that man’s sister that was craving that purple cake was no other than Alice Hook!
No wonder her boss was making things hard for that bodyguard. She has already found out who they are…
Suddenly, her phone rang, disrupting the silence inside the car. Seeing the caller’s name, Kathryn answered it. “Amber, you called?”
“Kathy, you wouldn’t believe it! I just learned something and I bet you will definitely like it! I have two good news for you. Which one would you like to hear first? The slightly good news or the very very good news?”
“Amber, just spill it.”
“Your no fun!… Okay, so Rhys Dalton’s proposal got rejected by Reign Enterprise! I don’t have the specifics of it but from what I have heard, Rhys Dalton had planned for months for this proposal, but in the end, it did not pass the preliminary round of Reign Enterprise! Isn’t that amazing?!”
‘Reign Enterprise?’
Reign Enterprise has been investing in a lot of projects all around the werewolf kingdom. From her knowledge, the number one condominium in Frerton City, the Platinum City, was owned by the mysterious boss of Reign Enterprise. Not just that, they were also a major investor in so many projects, from hotel chains to restaurants, banks, and real estate.
Aside from his secretary, no one had ever seen the face of the president of Reign Enterprise. But, his presence alone had become a well-known figure. He was known as the uncrowned alpha because of his multi-billion wealth, which almost surpassed the vast wealth of the 4 alphas.
He was a legend in the business world in the werewolf kingdom, but no one knew much about him. There was no image of him online, nor articles written about him and his lifestyle. Aside from him being the mysterious president of Reign Enterprise, there’s nothing else that the people know, not even his name was announced in public.
Moreover, he had never accepted any interviews, be it from magazines or news media outlets. Everyone concluded that he had used his influence to keep his identity a secret.
“Kathy? Hello, are you still there?”
Her thoughts went back after hearing Amber’s voice. She got so engrossed with her thoughts that she had forgotten that she was still on a call.
“Yes… Sorry about that. So, what was it again with Reign Enterprise?”
“You spaced out again… Anyways, so, it looks like Nightshade Enterprise was trying to collaborate with Reign Enterprise on one of their upcoming projects. But they got somehow rejected this time. I heard that this project proposed by Rhys Dalton was incredibly good and would definitely bring profits, but for some unknown reason, Reign Enterprise rejected it.”
It is not the first time that Nightshade Enterprise has collaborated with Reign Enterprise. There were so many projects done in the Northern Islands that Reign Enterprise partook in. As long as it could bring profits, Reign Enterprise would not reject it. So, what has changed now? That made Kathryn wary.
“Amber, can you get a copy of the proposal that Nightshade Enterprise sent to Reign Enterprise?”
“What?… Why?” Amber’s voice was full of confusion.
“I just want to check on something… Can you get it?”
It took a while before Amber answered, “I’ll try… But, it might take a while for me to get a copy.”
Kathryn’s lips formed a smile after hearing Amber’s answer. She knew it. Amber would definitely not disappoint her. “Thank you, Amber.”
“It’s nothing… What are friends for, right? Hahaha”
Kathryn did not comment as she proceeded to the next topic, “So, that is the first news. What’s the other one?”
“Oh, right! I almost forgot! My gosh, it’s the most exciting news and I’m sure you won’t expect it either!” For Amber to get this excited, it must have something to do with her plan.
“What is it?”
“That two-faced vixen, Alice Hook, is going to set an appointment with a famous designer to design her dress for her engagement party! Guess who that designer is?”
“Who is it aside from Nightshade Apparel designers?”
It was not a surprise for Alice Hook to find a famous designer. Besides, Nightshade Enterprise had so many designers at their disposal, so it wasn’t really surprising for Alice to find one. After all, she was getting engaged to a family that leads the fashion industry.
“Kathy, that designer was not from Nightshade Enterprise!… Alice Hook was going to set an appointment with KK Fashion for her engagement dress, and she specifically asked you, the famous Miss K, to design it for her!”
A flash of surprise was seen in Kathryn’s eyes. How ironic was fate playing on her? First, Alice Hook will use her twin sister’s wedding gown for her wedding. The fact that it's the wedding gown that Kassidy personally made for herself to wear on the day she got married. And now, Alice Hook wanted to ask her to design a gown for her engagement?!
“Looks like I’m really destined for this woman, don’t you think?” she played with the strands of her hair. Originally, her hair was blonde but she changed it to black, which was Kassidy’s hair color. Aside from that, she was also wearing a contact lens that had the color of Kassidy’s blue eyes to cover her amber eyes.
She admits that she missed her original hair color, especially her eye color. Amber— as Kassidy likes to describe. It looks like a glowing sun. Her amber eyes were inherited from their mother, while Kassidy inherited their father's eyes. Those two features differentiate them.
“I know right!… Tell me that you are going to reject that shameless woman’s request! Oh, I badly want to see her face once because of rejection for the first time! That would be a sight to see!” Amber glowered in excitement.
But, instead of rejecting it, Kathryn had a better idea in mind. “No… I’m going to accept it.”
“What?!” Amber’s voice was so loud that it almost hurt Kathryn’s ears.
“Amber, lower your voice,” she berated.
“Sorry… But what? You are going to accept it? Why?!”
A devilish smile formed on Kathryn’s lips as her eyes sparkled slightly, “You’ll see, my dear. You will see.”

It took them quite a while before Amber finished the call since she was about to go to work. As soon as the call ended, Kathryn said.
“Abby, find someone reliable to investigate the owner of Reign Enterprise,” she calmly said while looking at the roads through her car’s window. If she wanted to establish her influence in the 4 islands, then she would need the support of someone powerful, like the owner of Reign Enterprise, “Also, tell Director Queen that if a woman named Alice Hook asked for an appointment, she should accept it. By the way, did you get a hold of the current standing of Nightshade Enterprise on the stock market?”
“Miss Jones, their current standing at Nightshade Enterprise was still the same as before except for their Nightshade Apparel, which is their fashion business. The stock prices of Nightshade Apparel have not shown any improvement in the last 6 years. But since the enterprise holds other businesses aside from Nightshade Apparel, it hasn’t affected the enterprise that much,” Abby explained. “They haven’t produced high-end designs for the past years. The clothes they produced weren’t the same 7 years ago, so they have suffered like this.”
‘Of course, it would! After all, Kassidy was still around at that time designing clothes for them! Now that she’s gone, who else could topple her twin sister’s designs? No one!’
“What’s the current standing of the major shareholders in Nightshade Enterprise?” she asked.
“The biggest share in the enterprise is still held by the alpha of Nightshade Pack, Raoul Dalton, which is 30% of the share. The second biggest shareholder is Reign Enterprise. They owned 20%”
Kathryn furrowed her brows in response. She really needed to be acquainted with the owner of Reign Enterprise. “I want you to check if there are any upcoming galas or charities that have invited the president or anyone with a position in Reign Enterprise as a guest. Then, secure an invitation for me,” she instructed.
“Noted, Miss Jones.”

On the top floor of Reign Enterprise, a certain president was trembling while looking at the photos in his hands. In the photos, Kathryn was seen in close proximity to Cole Donovan, her hand resting on his shoulders, and a beautiful smile could be seen on her face. If one were to look at the photo without knowing the context, it would be easy to arrive at the conclusion that Kathryn was looking lovingly at her beloved
Although Cole Donovan was years younger than Kathryn, it wasn’t obvious because Kathryn didn’t look her age at all. She still looked like a college student and not a businesswoman who had experienced the hardships of life.
“You told me that what Kathryn had with Donovan was purely business.” Before crumpling the photo slowly in his hand, Calvin said, “Then, why is she smiling at him like that?”
Secretary Collins stared at his boss. His eyes were full of disbelief. How should he know why Miss Jones was smiling? There was no way that he could read her mind at all!
“Answer me, Paul Collins!” he hissed, almost making Secretary Collins jump.
“President… I heard that Miss Jones visited a pastry shop in Realton Lane. The people we sent said that she liked that pastry shop, especially their purple cake.” he answered, trying to divert the topic. And hoping that this information could somehow pacify his unreasonable boss, “Also, after Miss Jones left Mr. Donovan in that restaurant. She hasn’t visited him ever since. She was always seen in her house and rarely went out.”
Secretary Collins broke into a cold sweat. He knew that he needed to tread lightly if he were to continue talking to him. At this moment, it felt as if his heart was stuck in his mouth, and he didn’t know what else he would say to appease his enraged boss.
“What’s the name of that pastry shop?” Calvin asked.
“Swirls and Pearls, President.”
“Buy that pastry shop… I want her to have her favorite purple cake whenever she likes it. Make sure that there will be branches of that shop in the location she frequents so that she can get her cake all the time.”
“But president…”
“That’s final, Secretary Collins,” Calvin interrupted him, his eyes once again landing on the crumpled photograph in front of him, “Has her secretary made the call yet?”
“Negative,” Secretary Collins answered. “But, they have started to look into the background of all the big shareholders of Nightshade Enterprise after we rejected Mr. Rhys Dalton’s project proposal. Also… our men told us that someone from outside the werewolf kingdom was trying to dig up information about you. If my guess is right… then it should be Miss Jones and her people.”
Seeing that Calvin’s face eased a little, Secretary Collins let out a sigh of relief.
“Alright… That’s good enough. I will give her one more time to call me and schedule an appointment.” Calvin’s cheeky grin somehow surprised his secretary.
He had been with Calvin ever since the foundation of Reign Enterprise 10 years ago. However, this was the first time that Secretary Collins saw his boss smiling like this.
